Habeebah woke up to the ray of light coming through the window, she has been out for two days now and just regained consciousness. The room wasn't familiar to her, she was connected to different machines from head to hand. She tried getting up to sit but couldn't as she was so weak to even move a single finger, just then Umma and Humairah came into the room.
"Allah be praised! Habeebah you have finally opened your eyes." Umma said happily. Habeebah was placed on oxygen machine so she couldn't speak, she just kept blinking her eyes which led to tears.
"My dear why are you crying?" Umma asked when she noticed the tears. "Please stop it, I can't watch you like this again. After seeing you unconscious for two days because of that filthy boy, I can't bear to see you in anything sort of pain let alone allow anything happen to you again".
"Mummy is right you know, you should remove all worries from your mind so you can recover quickly, everything will be fine. I will go tell the doctor to come check on you." Humairah said gently touching her hand.
After a thorough check up by the doctor, he told them Habeebah would be fine and just need rest to recover quickly, they thanked him before he left.
"This is good news, let me inform the rest about it." Humairah said cheerfully. She brought her phone out of her purse and dialled Suhaib's contact.
"There's good news Lil bro, Habeebah has regained consciousness." She said as soon as he answered the call.
"Alhamdulillah! how is she?" Suhaib asked.
"She is doing better." She replied.
"Masha Allah, you sound very happy." He said smiling even though she couldn't see him.
"Yes Suhaib I am very happy." She replied giggling.
"Okay that's good, I'll inform Baba and pick up Farouk from work and we will be with you shortly." He told his sister.
"Please dear, on your way here arrange for some food and fruits for her, she looks hungry." She said taking a glance at Habeebah.
"Sure sis." And with that he hung up. Before leaving home he called Farouk telling him to round up his work not forgetting to text Baba about the new development.
Some hours later Habeebah was feeling much better now, seeing her family's care and support for her made her want to get out of the hospital soonest. They were now having a conversation.
"How are you feeling now my princess?" Baba asked sitting beside her on the bed with her head on his shoulder.
"I am much better Baba and how are you? Hope you take your medications regularly?" She asked her Dad looking up to him with furrowed brows.
"Who? Him? Take his medications regularly? No sis he doesn't, He even asked his doctor to drop down some." Suhaib interrupted receiving a smack on the head from Baba. Suhaib is a jovial, social and young handsome man of 26, he is the last born of the family and also considered the baby of the house. He's a popular OAP(On Air Personality) at a famous radio station in Yola. His pleasing and fine nature make ladies ogle over him, his smile can make one's heartbeat skip.
"Ouchh!" He yelled feigning hurt.
"I have told you to always mind your business but you don't listen." Baba said playfully pulling his ear.
"But he's telling the truth you don't take your medications regularly, Habeebah dear tell your father to leave my son's ear alone." Umma said gleefully.
"Listen I have told you many times that there's no need to take medicine when you're healthy. I don't need any medication, I am very strong." Baba told Umma.
"Says an old man who can't climb two steps without panting." Farouk said making everyone laugh.
"Okay guys that's enough Baba please promise me you will take your medications, I know you are strong and healthy and all but those drugs were prescribed so you could get more healthier, please." Habeebah pleaded with puppy dog eyes.
"How can I say no to my princess? Fine then I'll take it, happy?" He asked.
"Happy, thanks father." She said hugging him.
"By the way Mahmoud's family where here to see you twice while you were unconcious, Hajiya Jameelah his mother was crying bitterly when she saw your condition, even his siblings were so sad when they saw what their brother did, they couldn't believe Mahmoud could do such a thing. His father couldn't stand the sight of you, so he left in anger." Humairah explained.
"That reminds me the kids also asked about you and insisted they want to come over but I told them you will be discharged soon, so there was no need for them to come." Humairah said to filling the silence.
"Ohh...how are they doing? I really miss them so much." Habeebah said sadly.
"They're all fine but worried especially Adnaan, he didn't believe when I told them you fell sick, he's adamant that Mahmoud must have done something." Humairah explained.
"Well he sure knows his father." She said shrugging. "Any news from him?" She asked no one in particular.
"Abdulwahab called me earlier today saying he spoke to him and also pleaded with me to forget and put everything behind so you two can reconcile." Baba pronounced.
"Recon....what? After everything he has put her through, they want them to reconcile? I won't allow my daughter return to that despicable man." Umma said sternly.
"Fatima you are not in the position to decide whether they reconcile or not, Habeebah will be the one to decide what she wants." Baba told his wife. "Listen princess, I will support you in whatever decision you take." Baba said to his daughter.
"Never think you are alone in this fight, we are all in this with you." Suhaib spoke smiling.
"I really don't know how to thank all of you, I sincerely appreciate everything." Habeebah said to her family.
"No dear you shouldn't thank us, it's our duty to be there for you through thick and thin. If we aren't there with you, who will?" Umma asked.
"We love you and will always be by your side." Humairah smiled holding her hand.
"You must be very hungry, you should really eat something." Farouk said with concern.
"Yes he is right, you should eat so you can take your medicines." Chorused both Umma and Humairah.
Habeebah couldn't ask for more, with her family by her side she was sure to win this battle, even though Mahmoud wouldn't be that easy to deal with.
