The media went into a tailspin after Colson's incident. Many articles questions the health of Colson, reposting old photos of his partying ways and wondering if the artist possibly has a problem. He was barely home a week, after his release from the hospital, before his manager was calling to report the many interview inquiries. On top of his collapse, there was also the talk around his diss track. Many speculated that the diss lost part of it's impact due to his poor health.
"Tell them to fuck off," I demanded, when Colson told me he was considering at lease one interview.
"I can't baby. I have to address it." he sighed, leaning back against his couch in his LA home. We were back to FaceTime, now that I was home. I was able to take a few days off work to stay with Colson and get him settled at home.
"It's none of their business," I argued.
"It is though," he pressed, "I'm a public figure. This comes with the territory.
"I hate that," I muttered.
"I know, baby," he said softly, "but I need to let the world Machine Gun Kelly is okay and get back on track with my music. Word underground is that Eminem is going to release a follow up diss."
I wanted to scream who the hell cared about Eminem, but I had to face the fact that his career did.
His manager booked the one interview Colson was willing to do: The Breakfast Club; a radio show out of New York that referred to themselves as the 'most dangerous morning show' because they had built a reputation for their hard-hitting segments in the hip hop industry.
And they didn't hold back on Machine Gun Kelly.
"Morning everybody! Welcome to the Basketcase Club. I'm your host DJ Envy, and with us today we have a special guest: MGK!" He announced as the interview began.
Lorelei sat with me at my apartment, as we watched the interview live from YouTube, "So, You've been trending this past week." Envy commented.
Machine Gun Kelly, nodded, "Yeah, yeah."
"Your latest show, a lot went down. You took your shot at Eminem, which received high praise. And then you collapsed?" he was asked, getting straight to the point.
Machine Gun Kelly nodded, and replied, "Yup."
"And I'm assuming that wasn't from exhaustion?" he pressed.
"Nope," Colson kept his answers short.
"I'm just gonna say it man. You ever think about rehab? Especially seeing all your homies dying"
Machine Gun Kelly interrupted him with a quick "Nah. How?" he paused, "I'm addicted to this shit," he admitted.
The interviewer DJ Envy followed up with, "But how is this lifestyle sustainable?"
Machine Gun Kelly shook his head contemplating but he knew his truth, "Look" he started. "You have to kill parts of yourself so creativity can bloom."
"So that's just the way it is?" DJ Envy challenged.
MGK nodded and spoke a simple "Yup."
DJ Envy, realizing he had got all he was going to get from that subject, switched gears, "When the diss dropped, I gotta tell you I think even your enemies cheered. No one has been able to get such a direct hit on Eminem, man. Now what do you have to say about his initial diss? Seemed out of nowhere. Especially since y'all are on the same label. Were you prepared?"
"I don't think anyone can be prepared for something like that. But look, you're not gonna punk me. So I took my shot." Machine Gun Kelly responded.
