The room fell deathly silent.
Jenna and Tyler were too stunned to say anything. Betty stared at them waiting for a reaction and Francis just continued to sit in silence and observe the proceedings.
Finally Jenna opened her mouth.
“My house?” she stuttered.
“Yes Jenna, your house. That house has been closed for many many years and I have no idea how you'll managed to land up there. But you'll did and it was very unfortunate. I cannot help you undo whatever has happened over the past few months but we are here to protect you from anything in the future. Just stay with someone at all times and don't ever take that chain off you. We have tried to figure out how to take all of this forward and I'm going to let Francis take over now."
All eyes turned to the man sitting quietly in the corner.
"Aunty Betty has more or less covered everything and so now you'll know what we are dealing with.. At least to a certain extent," he began. "Now the only thing for us to do is to try and lure the spirit to a place of our convenience.
The advantage that we have this time is that it is not an exorcism we have to perform since the spirit has not taken possession of you.
The disadvantage that we have is that we have no idea as to what shape or form it's going to be in for us to even begin trying anything."
Francis paused to let this information sink in. When no one said anything, he continued.
"Over the next few days, I am going to observe you wherever you go. I also want the two of you to keep track of every single thing that happens around you. The moment you notice anything strange or out of place, inform me at once."
"But what if nothing happens?" Asked Tyler. "I know for a fact that ever since Paul died and Jenna moved away from there, nothing strange has happened at all. Maybe the spirit thing has lost interest in her?"
"My dear boy, the spirit doesn't just "lose interest" in someone. Au contraire, it's probably waiting and bidding its time for the right moment to strike. It is waiting for Jenna to let her guard down and then it will pounce on her like a hyena on a carcass. It WANTS you to think that it has gone away. It wants Jenna to slip up but we are not going to let that happen. We will wait, watch and always be ready to act. The next few days are going to be very crucial for us."
"Okay, but as Tyler said, what if nothing happens? I can't go on living in fear like this. Watching every movement of mine, troubling everyone around me. How long do we wait?" Asked Jenna.
"We will wait for a few days, maybe 3-4 days and if nothing happens, I'm afraid we are going to have to use you as bait to lure the spirit to us."
"What?" Screamed Jenna. "You want me to invite the spirit to come get me?? Are you crazy?!"
"Jenna", said Francis patiently. "I am not crazy. In fact, I am here to prevent you from going crazy. I have been in this line of work even before you were born. So, trust me when I say that I know what I am doing.
Not even two minutes ago you said that you don't want to go on living your life in fear, watching every step you take so if you really meant that, then this is our only way out. Do you understand?"
Jenna nodded mutely.
"Jenna, sweetie. Listen to Francis. He's here to help you and protect you," said Betty gently.
