Lee ran through the doors of the hospital and ran towards the lift on the off chance that Daisy would be there. After several failed attempts at calling her to apologise, he’d been resigned to running around to find her. His first stop had been the house, which, in darkness was obviously empty. His next stop, his second choice was the hospital and the Intensive Care ward.

As the lift pinged, reaching his intended floor, he shifted on his feet, impatiently waiting for the doors to open. A yawn emanating from his mouth, his hand ran over his face. After being unable to sleep, he’d spent the night cleaning the house from top to bottom. Being away from Daisy had major disadvantages. His urge to disinfect the house was more prominent than when she was around and with nothing to distract him from the images of the blood covered furniture, floors and walls from running through his mind, made worse by the thoughts of Daisy being mad with him, the urge took control and he’d spent the whole night scrubbing.

Exiting the lift, he turned right towards the ICU reception where a bleach blonde in her twenties was haughtily leant back in her chair filing her nails. As Lee stood in front of her, she didn’t once look up from her hands, he concentration fixed solely on them. Clearing his throat to try and catch her attention, he tapped his fingers on the desk in front of him drumming a beat impatiently. Seconds passed and when she still hadn’t looked up from her perfectly manicured nails, he cleared his throat again louder.

        “Excuse me.” He said politely.

This caused her to slowly lift her head up and give him an annoyed look as though it had been a crime to interrupt her pampering session.

        “What?” she asked bitterly.

“Jade, uh,” he struggled to remember her last name, “Garner.”

She shrugged and leant back in her seat. “What about her?”  Continuing with her manicure, she held her hand out at half arm’s length and studied her work.

“I’d like to find out what room she’s in, please.” He replied, wishing she’d forget about her nails for one second and act like a proper receptionist. He wanted to find Daisy and if he didn’t, he wasn’t sure what he was going to do. Forty eight hours without her already had been torture for him and he didn’t want to spend another moment without her.

Sitting forward in her chair, she eyed him up, noticing for the first time how handsome he was.

“What do I get in return?” she purred, seductively, batting her eyelids at him.

Lee scoffed unbelievable of her abruptness. Seeing someone else act like that towards him repulsed him to no end. He didn’t want to see anyone other than Daisy being seductive, especially towards himself. His stomach churned as she smiled a broad toothy grin that would usually be welcome, but right now wasn’t. “The satisfaction of knowing that you helped.” He said simply.

She scowled. “Are you a relative?”

Lee had forgotten that he’d need to be a relative to acquire any sort of information on Jade and his voice faltered as he tried to find an excuse.

“If you’re not a member of Miss Garner’s family, then I can’t give out any information on her current state.”

“I don’t want information, I want to know where she is!” he half pleaded in the hope that she’d see how desperate he was and let him through.

Putting her nail file down, she opened a drawer to her left and searched around for something for a few seconds before pulling out a pot of nail polish and a bottle of polish remover and leant back to continue what she’d been doing when Lee had interrupted.
