Chapter Four (finally)

'THUMP... THUMP... THUMP...' all Ellana could hear was her own heartbeat 'THUMP... THUMP... THUMP...' as she ran through the woods in the dark. 'Run' she thought to herself 'I have to keep going' so she did, she ran for her life, no matter how bad her legs were starting to hurt, she ran, dodging trees and jumping over logs. 'How did I get here?' She wondered... 'How did I get into this position?'

~~~~SIX HOURS EARLIER~~~~

JOHN'S POV

"Yes, I'm sure it was her" I argued with my brother.

"All I'm saying is, you've never seen her before, so how can you be sure?" Jacob questioned.

"She had the dog, and she-" suddenly the door opened, and a young man, in his early thirties, walked in.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, brother John. But I heard you were looking for someone, I think I know the woman you are looking for, she's an old... friend" the younger man explained.

"Well get on with it then" Jacob was losing his patience.

"Her name his Ellana Moore, she's 28 and been gone for about ten years, serving in the National Guard" the man said quickly

"How can you be sure that the woman we're looking for is Ellana Moore?" I don't know why, but I just wasn't convinced.

"I heard she was back in town, and the way you described her, brown eyes... dark brown hair just past the shoulder, late twenties" the man went on "it has to be her"

"How did you say you knew her, again?" Something about the way the man, Lee, talked about her, they had to be close... very close...

"We dated... before she left" Lee said as he shuffled on his feet.

Now It was Jacobs turn to shuffle, 'he almost seems... uncomfortable? What's up with him?'

"So... any idea where she could be?" Jacob was growing impatient.

"You said she was headed towards Falls End, right?" Lee questioned me.

"Yea, I saw her about 4 miles from town" i confirmed.

"She could be going to Ryes... I would definitely check there first, her and Rye were good friends before she left" Lee told us about the woman and fly boys friendship.

"It's worth a try" Jacob stated "we can't show up unprepared though, the Ryes won't like having us there"

"I guess I can't disagree with that... after I 'borrowed' fly boys plane, he probably won't be very happy to see me...' " Lee, round up some men... Jacob it might be best if we take some judges, can you have some here within an hour?" I made my decision.

Jacob almost looked offended that I would even ask him that "baby brother, you wound me" Jacob said rather dramatically "I can have judges here within ten minutes"

I simply rolled my eyes "then do it"

ELLANAS POV

Driving under the big 'RYE AND SONS AVIATION' sign gave me a familiar feeling in my belly, I was excited.

'It feels like I'm a teenager again... here to hangout with Nick, and stress out grandpa Rye' I couldn't help but smile at the memories 'I wish I could have come back for the funeral, Nick must have been devestated... they were so close'

I'm filled with joy when the familiar plane garage comes into view, although, no plane. after I park in front of the garage I hurry and get out, letting Boomer out in the process, he immediately runs into the garage 'fine, I'll walk myself in'

"ELLANA?" A sudden voice yells "is that really you?"

"I know that voice" I say quietly to myself, and turn to look to where the voice was coming from, and it's none other than Nicholas Rye himself...

He rushes up to me, engulfing me in his arms "I've missed you Ellie" he said almost sadly

"I've missed you too Nick" I hadn't realized how much I actually missed him until now. "So what do you say we take Carmina for spin? I wanna see if you're still the 'King Of The Skies'"

"Well of course I'm still the king... but I don't actually have Carmina, John Seed and his crazies came up here and took her! Just like that! Fuckin peggies" 'Nick is obviously angry, and who could blame him? That was his grandfathers plane, it was named after his grandmother'

"John seed? I met him on my way here. Nick, I need you to tell my everything... who is John seed? And what's a peggie?"
I have a lot of questions, questions I hope Nick can answer.

So we sat down on the old couch in Nicks garage, and he told me everything... all about the seeds, he told me about the oldest, Jacob seed, and how he was the 'scariest' as Nick put it. He told me about John, the charming one that I already met. And Faith, the 'siren' according to Nick, she's the most dangerous, able to get anyone to do anything. And then he told me about Joseph, the one they all look to for answers, "They call him 'The Father'" he continued to tell me about him.

After hours of Nick telling me everything he knew about the Seeds and The Project Of Eden, we finally had time to just catch up on each other's lives.

At least, that was before half a dozen trucks pulled up outside... "peggies" Nick said, venom dripping off his tongue "get ready to fight, man I'm glad Kim's in Falls End"

"No, we're not fighting" they're here for me, and I won't let Nick get hurt because of it "they're here for me, Hide Boomer and I'll lead them into the woods, and when the time is right, I'll lose them"

"Are you crazy? They have the chosen AND judges, they'll catch you in a heartbeat, you just got here... you don't know what they're capable of" 'I know he just cares about me, but what he fails to realize is... he doesn't know what I'm capable of either'.

"I've made my decision, and you have to do as I say... remember, I am older than you" I said smugly.

"BY TWO MONTHS" Nick always hated when I used our age against him, but in all seriousness, nothing he could do would stop me from acting out my plan.

Nicks yelling faded from earshot as I exited the garage, stepping into view of the Peggies.

"Ellana Moore, isn't that right? You lied to me." John seed spoke, with that same charming grin. I didn't listen to anything else he had to say, I simply took off into the woods, running as fast I could.

I could hear them behind me, they weren't far behind... and they were gaining quickly, but I refused to give up.

Suddenly I could hear... howling? 'those must be the judges Nick told me about, I need to lose them'.

Suddenly I make a sharp turn, now heading south 'I remember the river being this way, it can't be far. I'll lose them there'

'THUMP... THUMP... THUMP...' all Ellana could hear was her own heartbeat 'THUMP... THUMP... THUMP...' as she ran through the woods in the dark. 'Run' she thought to herself 'i have to keep going' so she did, she ran for her life, no matter how bad her legs were starting to hurt, she ran, dodging trees and jumping over logs

"There it is" relief filled my exhausted body "I can make it... only a little... further" I pushed myself, running even faster than before.

Suddenly pain flooded my body, I couldn't help but cry out. 'They shot me..?" why was I surprised? It's not the first time, and they're obviously lunatics, 'I've never felt such a burning pain before though... what did they shoot me with?'

My head suddenly started feeling heavy, it was hard to breath, and my vision started going black... 'Is this it? Am I dying?'

And suddenly... everything went black....

CHAPTER FOUR!!!! Sorry it took so long😖 I was trying to figure out how I wanted this chapter to go, but in the end this is what I came up with... Hope you enjoy!
