My ears ringed as shots went off around me, sweat ran down my face as I ran for cover. "MOORE! GET DOWN!" was all I heard before a frag grenade blew up no more than 20 feet in front of me. Everything went white, I couldn't hear anything over the ringing in my ears, not even the dozens of gunshots around me. A man I recognized from my squad, Jefferson, grabbed my shoulder and pulled me to my feet "YOU'RE NOT CHECKING THE FUCK OUT OF LIFE TODAY, MOORE!" the man screamed over the gunfire. As I got to my feet, I could see the enemy moving in on us "WE NEED BETTER COV-" was all Jefferson was able to get out before he shot in the chest. I bent down, placing my hand on the hole in his chest, hoping to stop the blood, but Jefferson was already choking on it, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Matt" I whispered as Jefferson closed his eyes for the last time. I was quickly pulled from my moment of mourning when a shot hit the ground right beside me. I jumped to my feet, running for the nearest cover. As I dove behind the cover, I was expecting to see someone from my squad, instead, I saw the enemy I was seeking cover from... And before I knew it, he had noticed me... He turned to me and before I could react, he pulled the trigger, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach... I dropped my gun and fell to my knees, my hands landing on my belly, being coated in the dark liquid escaping my wound... The last thing I saw was one of my squad mates shooting the man who had shot me, "MOORE! STAY AWAKE! DO YOU HEAR ME?!" was all I heard before my vision became clouded with darkness.

I awoke with a cold sweat, I was breathing heavily, and had hot tears streaming down my face, 'it was a dream? no, not a dream, a memory' I could remember that night easily, it was the night Mckinney told the enemy where we were camped. As is from memory, I felt a twinge of pain in my abdomen. I pulled up my damp t-shirt to look at the scar on my upper abdomen just under my left breast. I gently grazed my fingers across the scar, remembering the events of that night.

Boomer whined at the end of my bed as if he was asking if I was okay. "Don't worry about me, boy, I'll live, I always do" Boomer barked at my response like he understood what I said.

I grabbed my phone off the nightstand, checking the time "jeez, 11:54. Guess I was pretty tired. You're probably pretty hungry, huh Boomer?" The dog barked again "okay okay, what do you want today? I'm kinda feeling scrambled eggs, what about you?" I followed Boomer to the kitchen.

After breakfast, I took a quick shower, mostly to wake up but to also rinse the sweat off of my body in the process.

Once I got out of the shower and got dressed I dried my hair, by then it was 1:15 'there's one thing I don't miss about the military, and that's military showers' I thought to myself as I threw myself unto my bed.

'John's ranch is a good hour from here, so I should probably leave at about 5:45 just to be safe. I'm sure he would be pissed if I was late' i smiled at the thought of wiping the smile off of John's face.

I decided to kill time by watching a movie. I was shocked when I looked at my phone and it was already 3:49, I closed my laptop and got up to get ready.

I did my hair first, curling it and spraying a bit of hair spray so the curls would last. After my hair was done I started on my makeup, doing a simple look... Mascara eyeliner blush, and some pink lipstick.

Once I was satisfied with my makeup I started getting dressed, putting on a black shirt with pink flowers, blue skinny jeans, and my grey matte boots, I finished the look off with my black leather jacket along with my dog tags.

I took my time getting ready, so by the time I was ready it was already 5:30. I grabbed my keys and headed to my truck, making sure to pat Boomer on the head as I headed out the door, I decided to leave a little early so I could stop in Fall's End and buy some dog food since Boomer can't survive off of human food.
