"You can't go in there Mr. Fair, I'm sorry. She's not responding to anything we do or anyone. What makes you think it will change?" The man in a coat asked Zack. "Because I'm her brother!" Zacks voice came though the window that was between us. I had blacked out after I killed him and I don't remember much more. No one has told me anything, but then again I haven't said a word.
All I can think is the blood that was on my hands. Vincent's blood. I let that wicked man kill another loved one. I'm such a failure. Tears drip from my face onto the table again, and Zack looks over at me. Pushing the man out of the way he comes in the door and scoops me up before running out into the hall and onto the elevator. "It's alright Jenn. I'm here." He says sitting down and brushing the hair out of my eyes.
When the door opened he locked it and walked into my room to get me some clothes. He helped me change before picking me up and walking towards my door. I didn't want to go in there. Grabbing onto the ledge made him stop and look at me. He knew where I wanted to be, but he was fighting with himself to give in. Sighing he backed up and walked over to the other door and walked down the hallway to Vincent's bedroom door.
"I'm going to get Keia. Stay put please." He tucks me under the covers before kissing my forehead and going off.
Finally moving on my own, I snuggled more into the covers as Vincet's scent overwhelmed me. I will not cry on his pillow. He would kill me if I ruin it, but he doesn't have to worry about it. I've cried my eyes dry. The more I snuggled into the covers, the closer I felt to him.
I over heard one of the men down stairs say they didn't find his body. When I heard that, I didn't understand. I was there when.... And I left him there. How could he disappear in that little time? It wasn't possible.
After thinking about it for what seemed forever, I thought of a theory. He's not gone, or someone took him away from me for real. I won't believe he's dead until I see his body dead. He's alive and I'll find him.
"Meow." I hear as the door creeps open a bit. My little friend comes in sitting on the floor looking at me. "Do I seem like a big fool to you?" She didn't answer my question, Keia jumped up beside me and snuggled into my shoulder.
"I can't do this without him Keia. I've survived this long because of him. He helped me get though the loss of Jargon, even my own brother couldn't do that. He helped me get better when all I could see is blood on my hands. I just.... I don't want to be like that again."
"Do you want anything to eat or drink maybe?" Zack asks me knocking on the door. "Oh I know what will make you feel better! I'll be right back." He says with a smile before walking away.
I traced my lips thinking back. He stole my first last kiss. I felt my face warm up thinking about it. I'm glad you took the first one.
Zack walked back in with a cup full of tea. "You didn't." I say giving him a very small smile. "Mom's special tea. It's meant to wash away your troubles for a while." Zack placed a cup on the table beside me before sitting on the floor.
"To Vincent." He says holding his cup up. "To Vincent." I say clinging his cup and taking a drink.
"Do you remember anything after you killed him?" Zack asked looking up at me. I shook my head. "You went crazy Jenn. I was trying to calm you down and you wouldn't even let me get within a foot of you. I was afraid I was going to lose you." Zack looked down to wipe his tears.
"Let me in." I look away from him. "If I let you in, you'll die too." He laughed. A lot actually. "I promise to never leave your side. If we go on a mission and I come back alive but badly beat up, we will run away and never look back. All this will just be a bad dream." Zack says smiling.
"Promise?" I ask looking over at him. "I promise always to come back to you, alive." We extended our pinkies and crossed them. I knew that this promise wouldn't be kept. We live in a word where promises don't stick. I've learned that the hard way.
"So who took my sister's first kiss?" He asks looking straight at me. I blush a bit. "No way would I tell you!"
Zack laugh again, and in what seemed forever, I laughed too. "Zack, I want to go on a solo mission. Start small and work my way up." Zack got up and brushed my hair out of my eyes before kissing my head. "Heal up first, and then we'll talk to Lazzard about it."
~~~~
"Solo mission?" Lazzard leaned back in his seat. "You just went throu-" "I know, but I need something to do. I'm fine now." I interrupt him as I stand up from the chair. "I need to get out of here for a while."
He nodded before looking through his papers. "Take a warm up mission. You'll be teaming up Kegia to guard a very important person. You will escort this person home and return as soon as possible." I nod accepting the simple mission. I wasn't looking forward to teaming up with him though.
"So what did you get?" Zack asks as the elevator door open. "A simple escort with Kegia." I say frowning. "I don't like him like I use to, so don't be surprised if I kill him for speaking."
Zack laughs. "Go on and pack." I nod walking towards my door. I grab a bag before putting a couple outfits, lots of blood vials to keep me from killing Kegia, and one of Vincent's jacket's.
"I'll see you when I get back." I hug Zack before picking up Keia and my sword pack. I turn around to look at him one last time for a while. He was holding up a thumb as the doors close.
"Operation find Vincent is in progress.." I tell Keia as the elevator descended.
