Slowly after the success of Ezreal getting out of the maze he was still inflicted with horror and sadness, the visions he had seen broke his soul, almost called for unwanted darkness he did not want to mend himself with. Never had he cried even once in his life before, because there were too many good things in life for him to explore and pour his sadness into, but this- the sight of someone he had spent too much time with, that saved him without even knowing who he was, trusted when she was at her weakest. He grunted out of annoyance, feeling helpless after everything that had happened. Inhaling sharply he resumed his walk towards the others that had spawned over time, the only ones missing were Rakan, Ahri, Lulu, Soraka, Sarah and Jinx. The rest had successfully found their way out of the maze, but less scarred as he were.
Neeko were the only one who could truly see the grief and pain carved into his soul, her bare feet left the sound of tapping skin on the ground, approaching him carefully in her steps. 'You're hurt.' She whispered, reaching her hand out to place it on his chest. 'What did Zoe do?'
Ezreal sighed, he knew that if he lied she would see it right through him so he sat down at a pillar while Syndra and Janna had gathered to summon the pocket dimension that held the lost guardians. 'I saw Kai'Sa die in the maze.'
Neeko gasper, her hair that shook as if it represented her ears. 'Pretty void lady?'
Ezreal chuckled and smiled bittersweet towards the chameleon, Yeeto who had crawled out of the gauntlet to cheer him up.
'She is very special to Ezreal, yes?'
The tips of his fingers stroke over the ears of his pet and he nodded while his eyes did not meet hers. 'I don't know her for that long, but in those two weeks that we were together, I've seen her more than anyone else in my life.'
Neeko nodded with the mentality of a child. 'Void lady had no friends for so long, her shoma was very large but empty.' Her lower lip shook out of pity and she kneeled down on all four, wrapping her tail around her limbs. 'Neeko suspects because she had no friends, she is now making up for it.'
'I don't think she expected us to be friends.'
Neeko tilted her head like a curious dog and grabbed the end of her tail. 'Why not?'
Ezreal shook his shoulders. 'She saved me from the void and had her eyes out to kill them, nothing more, nothing less.'
'So Ezreal went in and helped her?'
He nodded, shaking his arm to lead Yuuto back into it. The little star animal chirped a small goodbye and crawled back into the gauntlet.
'But that is wonderful! Your shoma's must have connected then!'
'Connected how?'
Neeko sat up straight and let her tail slip out of her fingers, impersonating the elders of her tribe. 'When someone acts out of selflessness and without gain to serve or protect the other, a silent oath is promised that connects the shoma's to each other.'
'So it's your way of saying that we're friends with each other?'
Neeko nodded excitedly, her smile almost wider than her face could bare. 'But better! A bond like that is supposed to last forever, Neeko has seen bond with bird people, but also with knife bird woman and fox!'
'They still have it?' He wondered curiously, helping Neeko up so they could gather with the rest of the team.
Neeko raised her chin and said proudly. 'A bond like that does not break over hate, death or betrayal. There will always be a soft spot for the other, even if they don't admit!'
'So are you bonded with anyone, Neeko?'
'Yes! With jungle cat Nidalee, but she is very busy and Neeko does not see her that often.'
Talking with Neeko had cleared the clouds in his mind that had driven him to sadness and a possible traumatic disorder, hearing the chameleon talk in colours and emotions how strong people could connect to one another made him feel closer to his only true friend.
'But Neeko thinks that there might be more between pretty boy and void lady.' Bumping her elbow to his side he understood that she was hinting at them feeling more for each other than what met their eye.
'Me and Kai'Sa? We're just friends, nothing more to it. I've seen her in a lot of states and never have I felt for her what I did for Lux.'
Neeko giggled and raised her tail to flick the tip of his nose. 'So pretty boy does not have any feelings for Kai'Sa?'
Ezreal was sure of it, thinking about every encounter they had he could not recall a moment where he though that he was actually falling for her.
'So pretty boy would not mind if Neeko got into a different skin?' Blood rushed to his head when the voice of Kai'Sa spoke the words of Neeko, he did not dare to look beside him because every time someone tested him for his words, he would panic that they might not be true. Neeko cut his pace by standing right in front of him, her face that captured every detail of Kai'Sa. From the soft texture or her skin, to her detailed cheekbones and blossom lips. Her lavender eyes came closer to him when she leaned into him and he did his best to act as normal as he could, but somewhere in between the time she just looked at him and her leaning closer into him, it felt like his heart had split itself, beating behind his eyes, in his throat, in his chest. The moment came to an end when she quickly changed into Lux, where buried emotions were once again replaced by confusion. Neeko grinned in the form of Lux and leaned back, changing back into her original form. 'Pretty boy's eyes were as big as stars when Neeko was void lady, but very small when Lux.'
'That's just because you startled me.'
She pointed her finger in his direction, holding her tail in the other hand. 'Or because pretty boy does not want to admit that he likes void lady.' Neeko shook her head, clearly expressing that she was angry. 'Why are people so slow, Tail.'
Ezreal could not help but laugh at the sight of the chameleon and her tail conversing with each other, though it did cheer him up at the mention of their bond together. People that had crossed their path together always assumed them as a couple, but deep down they knew there was probably something more divine to it. His kiss with Lux might have not been that fascinating or as amazing as he imagined it to be, his feelings were still the same towards her, the thought of it being spectacular had just dumbed down his expectations of her, but at least he could cross that off his list, how much further could he get he wondered?
A sting of pain poked right through his chest when the sight of Kai'Sa laying on the ground had struck him once more, like one of the infections that Zoe had given to Xayah and Rakan, he assumed he had caught too. Grunting slightly he felt the dark matter grow at the tip of his fingers, staining his white gloves. If this had been what controlled the vastayan couple, he finally understood why their grudge and hatred had grown so strong towards the others. Shaking the thought of the poison that had entered his heart he resumed his walk towards Syndra who had finally sparked magic from her fingertips and shaped forms and circles, shapes and colours. Many forgot that she was not just a star guardian, it was often unseen that from all the others she wore the same colour palettes as Zoe, which only meant that she knew of their existence and wielded it, but it did not control her. A guardian fallen to power, yet controlled.
'The portal is about to be opened, I can already sense their presence, but I can't see them.' Syndra mumbled while holding onto one of her multi, piercing her fingers through it's core it squirmed at her touch and screeched. The sight of her transforming her own pet was horrendous to the other star animals, Yuuto and Saki that looked for cover near their owners, Towa who did not even bat an eye and probably looked around in case he might find a fly. Just like Multi had Zephyr seen plenty, so her mind did not budge at the view.
The dark sovereign spread her fingers inside the core of Multi and let it drop to the ground, nothing had happened but his eyes being closed, one with the darkened puddle at their feet. Before Ezreal could ask what they were waiting for had Multi opened his eyes and laughed deviously, until the only sound that had filled the charmer was his laughter, before it's face vanishing and creating the entrance towards the pocket dimension.
Many of them had thought it would be a room where Zoe would hide herself in when in danger, multiple dimensions weaved in one, but in reality, it was as the name sounded: a pocket. From their vision, looking below into the depths it was a chessboard toned in purple and pink colours, one they could easily imagine Zoe's hand vanishing in with ease.
'I don't know about you guys, but this dimension is empty.' Poppy exclaimed, resting her enormous hammer on her shoulder which looked like it swung with the flick of her finger.
Lux stood at the edge of the portal, the air of the atmosphere that blew her pink pigtails in every direction like a whirlwind. 'I doubt Zoe would just hide them in a dimension and let people save them with ease.'
'Lux is right! Neeko can see their shoma's right below that floor!' Everyone's eyes were turned towards the chameleon who smiled happily. What they had not realised was that the pocket dimension did not match with the rest and was not dug that deep, it was an illusion for them to think it was empty, but their plan could not succeed if they wanted to follow it by the rules, the only one's that could fly at this moment were Ezreal and Xayah, Syndra held the gate open and Janna had nothing to bring a huge amount of damage to the floor.
'We have to give it our all,' Xayah mumbled, from there taking the lead after the questionable faces that everyone had pulled. 'I say: Fuck the old plan, we need all the power that we can use. Ezreal and I will catch anyone that could possibly fall down the pit, I will take over Poppy and Neeko. Ezreal, you fly with Lux.' Xayah glanced at him, her expression serious, telling him that whatever was in his mind that he could do to distract anyone would cost his head, or the rest of the team. Frankly, the thought had not even crossed his mind, knowing that beneath their feet were two guardians waiting for a door to be opened for them.
Poppy brought down the head of her hammer into her hand, her teeth hooking over her lip. 'I knew this hammer could solve any problem in the world,' Placing it down the ground faintly shook underneath their feet, what made the others believe that whatever the hammer desired, it was only Poppy that could grant it. Tightening her pigtails the Yordle closed her gloved hand around the handle of the hammer. 'I will smash the ground with all the power I can vest in this baby.' The Yordle exchanged a look with the others to ask what their strategy was.
'I will use all the light that is within my range to weaken the surface.' The first star said excitedly.
Ezreal looked at Yuuto who gave him a quick nod before it crawled out to serve as his wings. 'I will use whatever power my gauntlet can give.'
'Neeko has better idea!' She pushed Lux aside and kneeled down on all fours. 'Everyone will throw their magic on me and I will collect it with my magic to make an explosion!'
Though the first star was among them, everyone glanced at Xayah for her approval. With her hand resting on her hip she thought of it, her eyes closed to trail back to the time when she had fought her. 'We need to time it well, if we throw everything too soon she won't be able to collect all the energy around her to explode the floor and probably die. Neeko, you stay here while we go down, you prepare yourself and once you're ready to collect the energy you jump down,' Xayah summoned two feathers and pointed them at Ezreal. 'You need to fire your strongest barrage, when you see her falling down. Lux, you keep firing at the floor until Neeko is close from hitting it. The outburst of your magic will be consumed by her and hit even harder and Poppy-' The rebel turned towards the brave Yordle and smiled with pure confidence into her skills. 'Hit the ground as hard as you can along with Neeko. Janna, give us enough wind towards the end so Ezreal and I can save the others.' Janna nodded, everyone had confidence into Xayah's plan and for that moment they now realised why she was one of the few guardians that was combined with two personalities, the leader and the gentle. Though her language often cut through the bone, deep within her cold posture was someone who would sacrifice herself to get to her cause.
She took a deep breath, her eyelids that closed before the gate as she felt the energy of her Vastayan blood crossing with the oath of the guardianship. Letting go of the form of her wing, two were replaced at it's loss, capturing the very essence of starlight. Poppy stood beside Neeko, waiting for their fall. By breaking the rule of what Ahri had set Lux flew down with her energy, feeling the dark matter that rested within the dimension closing onto her, she knew she would not have long before she would fall down. Xayah and Ezreal quickly followed, hovering above the ground.
'Let's hope this will work!' Lux exclaimed before she let go of her sceptre, at her calling it slowly circled, centred at the palm of her hand. With the magic that was vested in her she called upon the energy of her teammates, as well as strengthening theirs as her own. Pink essence shone from her body, lit from the tips of her fingers. The sceptre spinned faster and faster, until a ray of pure starlight burst out of it's wave. The light hit the ceiling, the dimension trembled at it's power and shook. Xayah and Ezreal no longer hesitated and collected all of their power, granted from their leader. The rebel rose her arms into the sky, summoning upon all the feathers that she could think of. Her wings stretched out to it's max, reflecting the light that shone from the first star. With a swift flick of her wing it shot a thousand missiles, in the shapes of feather daggers towards the ground.
