Days had gone by, not even once had Ezreal a moment to himself. He was not sure if asking her to be his mentor had been a great idea, when she would not settle down for failure or a sign of weakness. Everything that slowed down his pace or altered his thoughts towards her in combat was immediately used against him, by now he knew the nightmares he had of losing her were nothing compared to reality. He now knew why her legend spread as the girl who came back a monster, there was no sense of humanity left in her during a fight or battle. It was as if every switch had been turned off that could link her to reality, or remotely close to society. Perhaps it was not so strange to find her gullible whenever she was around humans without the threat of a voidling nearby. It took him month to understand why she held so much admiration and compassion towards humans, even if they hated her for the person she became.
With sore muscles the explorer slowly got used to his aching body and restless mind, with each passing day his stumbles and crawls had become steps and slow paced walks. From her instructions he could only tell that she tried to make him a whole new man, one who could withstand the void and walk out without a scratch. But did it have to hurt so much? His hand rested on the muscle of his shoulder that had grown wider in just a matter of days. Stretching out his arm he felt a stinging pain shooting through his spine when he bent it the wrong way. Cursing softly he picked up a piece of bread he cut from the loaf, the more he trained the more his appetite had grown, but not for food. He craved to feel the atmosphere of another region on his skin again, the sole of his boot crunching on particles of sand, rock or rustling grass. He wanted to walk mountains, cross seas and feel the wind in his back again.
'I see you're slowly getting used to being worn out.' But more importantly, he wanted her. Days had gone by where there had not been a single intimate interaction between them, not a single kiss or moment he caught her slowly falling off guard. He slowly turned towards the high pitches of the amused voice, the owner that looked happily in his direction. 'From what I'm seeing you've improved quite a lot in just a few days. You weren't kidding when you said it was your talent to learn things quickly.'
Never had he seen a woman more happy than Kai'Sa after every successful combat, even if she sometimes had managed to almost beat him black and blue. His thumb ran over his bottom lip and he clicked his tongue. 'So when am I getting a reward for my victories?' Though it came out in a teasing way, deep inside the gear in his head started spinning to form a new fantasy before him. Is this what people mean when they say they're deprived of something? He never got hung on anything, because he always managed to get something before he craved for it and if he didn't get it he would distract himself, but this was getting out of hand.
She crossed her arms before her chest and looked away in thought. 'My rewards were living another day, I don't know what you would want.'
Ezreal resisted making a sly comment of what he would want, it was no time or place to even discuss it when there was barely any progress. It was not like he needed it, but every time they spent their days together outside of training and enjoyed each other's company, he wondered if she were still interested to have any of that intimacy that they had before he proposed to be tutored by her. It felt more like he was becoming her best friend against instead of a potential partner.
He groaned at the thought of starting all over again, how would he start? How would he even ignite it again? Feeling rather tired because of his lack of strength he dropped his hands on the edge of the kitchen counter for support. 'A hug will do.' The words came out tiresome, he already felt the next morning that would tire him out in many ways than just physical.
Kai'Sa chuckled at the sight of his defeat and stepped in to cross the distance between them, from the looks of a teasing glimpse in her eyes his forehead was troubled with a frown. The closer she stepped in to his direction he felt his stomach turn in ways he wished he could make it stop, the veins behind his eyes that twitched nervously. She raised her hand to cup his cheek, the other that trailed from his shoulder down, every tap of her fingers that traced down on his bare skin made his breath cling on to his throat. Breathing nervously he bowed his head down when she gently pulled him in closer, wrapping his arm around her waist.
Was he dreaming? Was she actually seducing him?
Convinced that he would finally get a taste of her again she instead brushed her lips teasingly over his, her fingers that gently closed around the back of his head to let it sink deeper for her to kiss his cheek. Her giggle trembled over skin, causing him to fall back to images he suppressed the first them they occurred. 'That's not fair.' His mumble came out faintly breathless, his jaws were locked on to each other as he tried to keep himself under control. But she ignored his words and kissed his cheek once again, more passionate than the first time.
Calm down, Ezreal, she has no idea what she's doing, don't you even dare to lose yourself. Her kisses trailed closer to his mouth and right before they could pick up where they had left off days ago, a familiar laughter echoed through his head. With all of his remaining mental strength he tried to push her voice out of his mind, hoping that he would last just a few more seconds so he could finally-
'I knew it, you and void lady do like each other!' The last person he had ever hoped to even hear in those few minutes they spent together, the only measurement they took whenever Ezreal refused to answer their calling. With his lips pressed onto each other he pulled his head back right before Kai'Sa could kiss him again. Her lavender eyes opened, with just a few blinks her dilated pupils shrunk in to two little dots. With red struck cheeks she looked away and apologized quickly, but it was Ezreal who had to apologize. For days he had seen his pendant glistening through the keyhole of his drawer. Why did they need him now? Of all moments they surely knew how to pick on him.
'I have to be somewhere,' Not even an apologize could make up the interuption he made just now, one day he would find a way to disband himself from the group and Ahri. From the moment she had made him a star guardian he already knew that he would never find a time where he would enjoy being one, this was a prime example. Even with Kai'Sa in his life could he not adjust well in a team bond, his only trust so far went out to the girl that stood before him and he had to leave her again. Gritting his teeth he slowly pulled his arms back. An expression of pain that took over his face.
'I'm really sorry, Kai'Sa.' Ezreal mumbled softly, every word that stung deeply. This was the third time he had to bail on her when he had no desire to leave whatsoever. During moments like these he wondered if he would ever be able to pick it up again without him falling back to old memories. Maybe it were for the best to not spend all their time together, since the future promised them to companion. He wasn't sure if it would last his entire life, deeply he wished so, but the same could be said before his parents disappeared. He shouldn't cling too much on hope.
If Kai'Sa had been any other girl, he would have believed that any chances he had in the future would have evaporated, but she simply smiled in his direction that reassured him in many ways that they would be fine even if he were gone for a couple of hours. 'It's alright, we're not promised to see each other every day. Just come back safely again.'
His thumbs rested on both of her cheeks and he took every detail of her face in his mind again, no underlying messages, no worries for where he would be going off to, she trusted him more than he could trust himself and that made him promise to never lie or trick her in any way than to tease her. 'I know you'll miss this face,' To reduce the sentimentality that lingered between them he slip back to his usual behaviour and shook both of his brows. 'Does that mean we'll continue once I'm back?' Kai'Sa rolled with her eyes and slapped a piece of cloth to his chest, all this time he had not even seen his t-shirt in her hands. Maybe he did grow a bit obsessed with her that he missed every other detail. He shrugged the thought off and puckered his lips, but she simply laughed and pushed him in the direction of the door.
'Neeko is waiting for pretty boy.' With both brows raised and his eyes staring towards the door he wondered if she meant to mimic Neeko and teasingly insulted him or if she knew that where ever he was going off to involved Neeko. He'd like to believe that she would only compliment him, since there could be no other explanation to it.
