Chapter 11
Sarada was healing well, but Boruto couldn't shake the nagging dread that she was hurting and it was all his fault. He walked briskly out the door saying a quick goodbye to his mother and sister, and went on his way.
Even now Sarada was the one thing weighing on his mind. He didn't have the mental capacity to allow his thoughts wander to something else.
It was strange for Boruto to be early. Usually he was the one keeping Team 7 waiting with his tardiness. In all honesty, he felt bad for keeping the team every time. But getting up was such a hassle. Maybe, once Sarada was well again, he would make more of an effort. If , she gets well again, a voice said somewhere in the back of his mind.
" Good morning Boruto", he heard a somewhat surprised voice say, " you're certainly here early", Boruto turned around to see Mitsuki smiling. " Early for you at least", he added. Boruto wanted to retort but decided not to waste his breath. So he just replied with a grunt.
Seconds later, Konohamaru walked up, all cheery. It aggravated Boruto a little bit. How can he be so upbeat when Sarada is in the hospital?
" Looks like its just us guys today", he said, grinning, " I was thinking we'd do a little combat training?". He looked between them. " Some, 1 on 1's?".
" Sounds great sensei", said Mitsuki. Already heading off.
" Yeah alright", said Boruto, following behind him.
They walked for a little but until they met a clearing in the woods. They often came here to do battle training when it was all three of them. It was nice spot. Not too out in the open, but also not too enclosed. It was ideal really.
" Alright, first it's going to be me and Mitsuki", said Konohamaru," and then Boruto, you'll go up against Mitsuki". Boruto's only reply was to nod his head in melancholy, which made Konohamaru frown, but he shook it off.
" Alright!", said Konohamaru, excited, " one, two, three... go!". They went at it.
Though they were fighting right in front of him. Boruto couldn't help but feel distant, like they were miles away. To him he was just spectating from a far off place. Only half there.
A shinobi should never let their emotions get the best of them. But Boruto was doing just that. His emotions had never taken him over to this extent before. It was crushing him. And there was nothing he could do about. He was thinking with his heart instead of his head.
Boruto was called back to the world of the living by the sound of panting. He looked around to see Konohamaru breathing heavily, sweat dripping from his face. On the other hand, Mitsuki was completely unfazed by their ferocious battling, and stood calm and composed as usual.
" Alright, alright", Konohamaru said, out of breath. " Your turn to fight Boruto now". He walked away, wiping the sweat off of his brow with his blue scarf. Fighting Mitsuki had definitely taken a toll on him. Mitsuki was something else entirely, no doubt.
" Where does this kid get his energy from?", Boruto heard Konohamaru mumble questioningly. He patted Boruto on the shoulder. " Yeah, you have fun out there kid", he said.
Boruto sauntered out on the opposing side of Mitsuki. He really wasn't in the mood. Not that he was really in the mood to do anything these days.
" Are you ready Boruto?", Mitsuki asked. Boruto's only reply was a " mhm".
They both took a battle stance. Though Boruto's was lazy and awkward. Konohamaru hesitated before counting them down.
When he said go, the two boys shot forward. Boruto, with a little less energy. Mitsuki extended his arms, and snakes shot out of his long floppy sleeves. They flew through the air, hissing menacingly at Boruto, but he dodged them by a hair. Though he had to fight some of with his kunai. Normally I would've been able to avoid that attack entirely, but I guess this is how unmotivated I really am, he speculated.
While he was lost in thought, he didn't notice the long blue arms slithering around his body. He didn't have time to react so he was trapped. All wrapped up in Mitsuki stretched arms.
" Having an off day are we Boruto?", he asked. Boruto only looked away.
" Is it because of Sarada", he asked. Boruto looked up, expecting to see mockery in Mitsuki's eyes but when he met them, he only saw sympathy. He looked over at Konohamaru to make sure he was out of earshot, and saw him dozed off against a tree. He bit his lip and nodded his head.
Mitsuki let him down on the ground slowly.
" C'mon, lets talk about?", he offered.
