"Strange!! Shut up or I swear to god that I'm going to throw you into that frozen pond!!" I scold him, trying not to yell. He's been crying at the window like that all week, I guess he misses going outside. It's a miracle no one heard him by now.
I pick him up and carry him to where I was reading. " Look there's two reasons why your not going outside. First....your the only living thing that wanted to stick around me. I've been alone all my life. And I don't care if my one and only friend is a cat but I don't want you to leave me." I say softly. He looks up at me beginning to pure and I stroke his head. " And secondly we're going out later today anyway. You should know it's Halloween today with how much I've been talking about it." I say excitingly.
He seems very content to what I said, letting out a satisfied meow and curling closer to me. "Your such an attention seeker" I laugh as we both curl to take a nape.
When we wake up the sun is set and it's the perfect time to go. This time I don't need my glasses, hat, gloves or scarf. Every year they just think I'm wearing an elaborate costume. I can walk the streets without hiding myself. Without hiding in dark alleys.
When I was in an orphanage every day was Halloween. I would scare all the girls not too badly but just enough. They would always wonder how I would be at one place and then another in a second. To disappear behind their backs and then reappear in front of their nosies. It gave me a rush. But the only time I can safely scare and be comfortable is on Halloween. Theres a feeling I have every year on this day. A feeling that I was suppose to be out here tonight.
Strange walks by my side and I decide to start another one way conversation. "You know I haven't even started talking to myself yet let alone a cat. I know you can't talk but it's nice talking to someone. If I'm starting to go crazy at least I have a friend with me." He looks up at me with dilated pupils and brushes my leg affectionately.
It's funny but it seems that he understands me perfectly and he makes these gestures that cats usually wouldn't do. Oh well I'm stranger than he is.
"Why were you talking to a fucking cat?" I stop dead in my tracks. Damn it! I slowly turn and find a group of teen girls. Some have beers in their hands and their leaning on each other. It's like below zero outside and these girls are wearing skanky outfit. Oh god I hat Human girls like this! Their wearing sexy, inappropriate Halloween costumes. I turn swiftly to get as far way as I can but they yell after me in drunk laughter "what the fuck happened to you face?!"
"Its a COSTUME!!!" I scream and run as fast as I can. I know they won't follow me there too drunk. I lean myself against a wall to catch my breath. And there's shooting pain everywhere. I know I shouldn't have done that. I clench me teeth.
I sit and wait for the worst of the pain to be over with my legs tight to my chest and my head resting on my knees.
The pain is ringing my ears but with time the pain subsides a little, and there are only the aches again.
Strange nudges my hand as if to say if I was okay. I lift my head and give him a tired smile. "I'm fine" I say. I stand up slowly "come on. It's Halloween! We got no time for this. We got people to scare!" I try to say more cheerfully.
We start to walk out of the alley that we're in but the exit is suddenly blocked by a van.
Wait. That symbol on the van it looks familiar. There's a logo with a V and H with a crossbow in the middle of them.
I KNOW WHERE I SEEN IT!!!! It was on the building I escaped from and it was on the uniforms of the people how tested me.
I try to back away slowly but just as I moved the people with uniforms with the symbol jumped out and started running towards me.
BLOODY HELL NOT MORE RUNNING!!!
With Strange running by my side we make a break for it. We sprint through many streets before getting to the park. My whole body's on fire but if I stop I'm sure to collapse.
Strange runs ahead of me into the woods, meowing at me insistently. Wanting me to follow him.
It's a good idea. The forest stretches on for miles we'll just run until we can't hear them anymore.
We've been running for a while now and frankly I can barely hear anything with the ringing in my ears or see anything with my blurring sight. One of the only things I can make out is Strange's dark figure and glowing mismatched eyes.
We are definitely lost in here.
My vision is getting even worse and I'm slowing down. I can still see Strange but he's siting in the middle of a circle of....I can't make out what they are.
I'm stumbling now and just make it to the middle of the circle with him before collapse from exhaustion and numbing pain.
