I woke up before the skeleton roster cried at dawn. I thought about my escape plan last night before falling asleep. Jumping out the window was a chance that I really didn't want to take with this new body so I guess I have to sneak out the front door.
I changed quickly and tiptoed half way down before a voice startled me.
"And where do you think your going?" Said the doctor judgingly while wheeling is chair down, I lantern in one hand.
"Adapted a skill for things sneaking around have you?" I asked laughing nervously. "You might be a Princess but that doesn't mean your allowed to wonder off!" He said sternly.
"Look, I know your trying to keep me safe but...." "It didn't stop her from leaving either..." He sighed. "You remind me of her you know" he said woefully. I was silent. I felt pity for him. It was like he lost his daughter. Even if she was a pain in his rear, he missed her. It made me wonder how much Jack did.
"Go on now then, be carful. And I better not see you wondering again" he said regaining his shrill voice.I smiled with thanks and ran as fast as I could to the graveyard.
When I opened the metal gate I spotted Strange siting on a headstone. "Good, your here. I thought you would bail" he said as I approached him. I rolled my eyes " and miss the day that I scour the human world with you for a movie? Not a chance" I said sarcastically.
"So how do we get there?" I asked.
He jumped down from the headstone and strutted to some others while talking "the thing is, I'm not capable of what needs to be done" he said. "And what needs to be done?" I said already annoyed.
He stopped and pointed to a headstone shaped like a dog house. "You have to summon him to lead us" he said simply.
"And why can't you?" I objected crossing my arms. "Because he's.....you know!" "What? Because he's a dog?! Oh come on! Even if it's a ghost that can't touch you your afraid of a little dog?!" I said laughing. "They just irritate me! That's it!" He scowled. "I know the feeling" I giggled "fine I'll do it you big pussy" I said as I walked closer.
"What's its name?" I asked
"Zero" he responded backing away.
"This just got a whole lot better!!" I exclaimed. "Zero? Come here boy! We need your help, can you help us?" I said patting my hands on my thighs. Then out of the grave, a glowing white form of a dog spurted out. You couldn't see his legs but what you could see is that he was a cute and rambunctious beagle dog. I wonder how he died.
Upon looking at me he barked happily, meeting a new friend. I laughed as he circled me playfully. But he started to growl seeing Strange.
Strange made an aggressive noise in his throat but I stood in between them. "Zero pay no mind to him. I need your help and your the only dog for the job. Please could you?" I pleaded with him then he gave me an accepting bark, then I turned to Strange "and you do the same!" I said "I swear, I wouldn't want to go near him anyway" his pupils dilated in agitation.
"Alright let's go then" I said. "Now how do we get out"
"Besides jack and other ghosts, zero is the only one how would be willing enough to help us and is able to go to the human world" strange explain. Making as much room away from zero as possible as zero floated at my side.
"So he can just lead us the way?" I asked. "Exactly" he said.
"Alright boy do you think you can do that?" I asked zero. He barded in reply and lead us to cellar like doors leading down. He vanished going through them. I was about to open them but strange stopped my hand.
"Wait, I have something for you" he said rummaging in his pocket. He grabbed a pice of fabric out until it was a huge pill of grey cloth on the ground. He picked it up to revel it was a hood.
"I'm not good with Mistling magic but this will last about a day." What do I need this for?" I asked as he put it on me. "You can only survive in the light in this world, not pure daylight. You'll probably learn more about it in your studies" he explained. "Oh that's actually really thoughtful of you" I commented. "Well I don't want to be the reason of the death of the Shadow Princess do I" he grinned and opened the door to the cellar and slipped into the darkness. I huffed in aggravation. I have to spend my time with that. Bloody flippin brilliant.
