Dialing an emergency number had never been an issue before. When my grandmother had a heart attack, 911 answered my call immediately. When my uncle passed out cold with no probable cause, 911 answered instantly. But even after dialing the familiar emergency line six times, I had received nothing but a busy tone. It didn't make any sense. I hung up once more and instead tried the nearest police stations. I was greeted each time by a busy dial tone. Finally fed up, I called my Mum. It went straight to voicemail. It was the exact same for my Dad. Cold realization finally began settling in, and in my anger, I smashed my phone under my foot.
I stomped on it and screamed until my skin burned and my throat was raw. I didn't understand what was happening. I was one of the least interesting assholes that that green haired psychopath could have chosen to torment. I buried my face in my hands, but I couldn't bring myself to cry anymore. I felt empty and furious and petrified all at once. I felt sick and I had to rush to the bathroom to save myself the disgusting task of cleaning my mess out of the living room carpet.
Everything seemed so out of place, yet it all seemed the absolute same. I sat crossed legged in my bathroom, my back against the closed door. I already regretted destroying my phone. I sputtered out a cough and wiped my lips before regaining my bearings and standing up. I opened the door and slipped on a pair of sandals, fully prepared to spend the night in a hotel. I didn't want that asshole getting any ideas.
I grabbed the barest necessities that I would need and scheduled a Taxi with my laptop. I left my shattered phone on the floor, ignoring it as it's ruined screen lit up dully. I already knew who it was, and I momentarily wondered if he knew what I was doing. Then I scoffed. "Yeah, right, Venus." I sat my suitcase beside the door and chewed the inside of my mouth as I studied my laptop sitting innocently on the couch. Against my better judgement, I decided to leave it behind, just in case that psychopath got any ideas about using it to track me.
I met the taxi driver outside of the large apartment complex and let him put my suitcases in the trunk. I slid into the backseat with a sigh and made sure the seatbelt was wrapped securely around me. The driver glanced back at me through his rearview mirror and spoke. "So where are ya headed, little lady?" "Take me to a hotel at the edge of the city, please. Preferably a Holiday Inn." "You got it."
The rest of the ride was silent, and I was chewing the inside of my mouth so much that all I tasted was my own blood. The main thing I wanted to do was visit my parents and make sure that they were okay, but the last thing I wanted to do was put them in harm's way. The time passed relatively quickly, and I found myself at the Holiday Inn only ten minutes before midnight. I paid the taxi driver and gave him a generous tip before making my way into the hotel lobby. As soon as I received my key, I hurried to the third floor and plopped onto the nearest bed with a tired yawn.
"Well, someone's exhausted."
My eyes flew open and I shot up, staring wide eyed at the green haired male casually sitting on the bed opposite of me. "H-how the hell did you get in here?" I hissed, my body stiff as I prepared to run for the door. He glanced up at me, his silvery green eyes almost glowing in the dark. The lamp flicked on, and I cringed at the sudden light. "I can see wherever you go, and I can be wherever you are at any time," he purred out, raking his fingers through his wild hair. I shivered and pulled my knees up to my chest, glaring at him through my tears. "Okay, fine. Then how can you do that?"
He chuckled and smirked, shaking his head condescendingly. "Oh, Venus. Baby.." He flicked his gaze back to me, and we locked eyes. My breath caught in my throat and it took everything in my being to keep from screaming.
His eyes were golden.
