"Azrael!" My voice was raw from screaming. My wings were bloody and beaten - one was even broken - from shielding me from the shredding claws of the fallen angels. Our plan to negotiate with them had failed miserably, and we were all paying the price. Too weak to hold my angelic form, I was forced back into my human one, pinned to the hard ground by sharp claws and snapping teeth.
Most of the fallen had dog-like true forms, which I would have found surprising under different circumstances. "Venus!" Noen's cry was cut short by a yelp of pain as one of the fallen sank its teeth into his wing. I didn't know where Cap or Caleb were, and I had little room to move my head around and see. I grunted as the fallen holding me down shoved my face into the dirt. I couldn't help but think that this was it.
"That is enough, Azazel." The voice boomed over the landscape, and the fallen holding me down released me. I scrambled to my feet, panting as I was finally able to breathe. The creature was most definitely an angel. He was huge, larger than Lucifer, and I had to lift my head up quite a ways in order to see his three heads - an elk, a wolf, and the common angelic head. Six black and white wings rested on his back, and he sat on his haunches, regally poised like a wildcat. His tail lightly flicked against the ground, and Azazel took a step back.
"They were trespassing," the dark violet dragon-like fallen protested. "They came to us with the ridiculous request to stand against you and our father." The angel sighed, lifting a paw and rubbing his face. "Let them be, Azazel. I have half a mind to question whether or not you know who the girl belongs to." Azazel glanced down at me, and I quickly backed away, trying to find a way to hide the fact that I had healed my broken wing.
"I see nothing special about her," the fallen finally admitted, turning back to the angel who chuckled. "Really? Did you not notice the lioness? Which angel is it that has the head of a lion?" Azazel seemed to falter, and he visibly tensed. "Lucifer..." "Exactly." The angel finally peered down at me, and his glowing bluish white eyes bore straight through me. "Venus. I must speak to you in private. As for you, Azazel where are the others?"
The fallen made a clicking noise in the back of his throat, and Noen and Caleb were thrown to my side. The former stumbled and hit the hit the ground, groaning as his left wing made a sickening crack. I furrowed my brows and looked up at the dragon. "Where's Cap?" He winced and spared a slight glance in the angel's direction. "He was unfortunately killed..." Caleb and Noen fell silent, and I was furious enough to attack him once more, but the angel stopped me.
"Then you have a debt to owe them, do you not, Azazel?" The fallen growled but said nothing, and I knew that he would fight alongside us, simply because of the angel's words. But that only made me more curious. Why would an angel help us? He beckoned me away from the group, and I followed after him slowly.
He shifted into his human form, and his light green eyes watched me carefully. "You're Venus King," he stated, and it wasn't a question. I simply nodded. "I'm Michael." Fear immediately seized my body, and my legs began to shake. "M-Michael...?" "I'm not here to hurt you," he began. "I'm here to make a deal with you." I narrowed my eyes at him, and most of the fear was replaced with suspicion. "What kind of deal?"
"Well you see, my son has been quite a problem for Heaven for some time. He's killed thousands of us, and I expect him to kill a thousand more. I want help to bring him under control." "You mean you want to kill him." "No." The word was harsh, and I flinched, and he softened his voice. "No. I don't want to kill him. What I did was a mistake, but he is still my son. I still want what is best for him, but as Heaven's current leader, I also want what is best for the angels and Earth."
I crossed my arms and tilted my head. "And what exactly do you want from me?" "At this very moment, you're planning on finding the weapon rumored to be able to kill my father." I swallowed thickly and did not answer, but he continued on anyway. "You want to find it before Samael does. That's because you know he wants to take God's place. You know he'll destroy this universe, and possibly the others as well. Venus..." He paused and took a deep breath.
"I know you are against Heaven. I know you too want to kill God. But your reasons are much more pure than my son's. You want to kill God so that you may keep your life. Samael wants to kill him solely to take the throne." "What exactly are you saying, Michael?" I snapped, but then quickly shut my mouth. I was in no place to be smarting off to the most powerful archangel in existence.
"I want you to stop Samael," he replied. "He will not go quietly, nor will he go willingly. That weapon that can kill God is also the only thing besides God himself that can kill your kind." I stared at Michael in confusion, my heart dropping into my stomach. "I thought you said you didn't want him dead..." "I don't." His eyes were sad as he held my gaze. "But it may end up being necessary."
Everyone was silent as we settled into the hotel room. Azazel had begrudgingly agreed to help us find that weapon, which meant we had an entire legion of fallen angels on our side. The odds were looking much more promising, but I simply couldn't shake the feeling that something absolutely horrible was about to happen.
