Chapter 1

The next day Derek is waiting directly by the entrance waiting for Sky when he looks up and sees her walking in while shaking out her hair

Sky: "Hey." she says when he catches up to her
Derek: "Hey. So look we I need to tell you something."
Sky: "Is it true that Joe got brought in last night? Is he going to be ok?"
Derek: "I have a plan but listen we need to talk."
Sky: "Poor guy. He seems so nice." she says not really paying attention to him
Derek: "Sky."
Sky: "Sorry. I didn't really sleep last night and the coffee is kicking in" she says turning to see the look on her face making her be confused "What's wrong?" she asks as he sighs out before telling her about the person who arrived last night

Sky: "It's April Fools right?" she asks storming into Richard's hospital room "It's April Fools and Derek is playing a trick on me because there is no way that Addison Montgomery is actually in this hospital."
Richard: "I was going to tell you."
Sky: "So it's not a joke."
Richard: "You and I both know she's the best in the field. Bringing Addie out was the right decision."
Sky: "You didn't think that I deserved the decency to know that she was here? Much less coming?"
Richard: "Sky-"
Sky: "Are you going to offer her a job? If you are let me know now so I can put in my resignation."
Richard: "You're not quitting."
Sky: "I refuse to work in the same place as her." she says making him sigh out
Richard: "Look I understand what you're going through but-"
Sky: "You don't get to say that to me. Derek gets to say that to me. Adele gets to say that to me. You don't." she says looking at him sternly before going to walk out the room
Richard: "It's nothing personal Sky. Just business."
Sky: "The woman betrayed my friendship and trust and played a part in ruining my marriage. Like hell it's not personal." she says before storming out and shutting the door harshly

Little while later Sky is sitting at a desk in the ER twirling a pen around in her hand spacing out when Derek walks over to her

Derek: "Sky. Sky. Sky." he calls out a few times making her come back to reality looking over at him
Sky: "What? Sorry. Did you need something?" she says making him give her a soft look
Derek: "You ok?"
Sky: "Don't do that. Don't give me that look of pity." she says turning to return a chart to the stand before turning back to him
Derek: "I wasn't. Figured you'd want something to get your mind off of things."
Sky: "I'm good Derek, ok. I am." she says looking at something on the computer
Derek: "Yeah no I know that. Well I'll let you get back to work" he says going to walk away before turning back to her "Oh real quick. Have you ever attempted a standstill surgery?" he asks making her look up from the screen at him intrigued

Derek: "It's the location of the aneurysm that makes it tricky."
Sky: "Your body temperature would be lowered to protect it and stop the heart."
Derek: "Which stops blood flow to the brain which reduces the risk of rupture. I'll have 45 minutes to clip the aneurysm."
Sky: "Before I get the heart started again."
Joe: "You wanna freeze my body, drain my blood, and stop my heart?"
Derek: "And bring you back."
Joe: "In under 45 minutes?:
Derek: "Right."
Joe: "If you go over, is it free?" he asks making the two attendings chuckle and the intern shake her head at him
Cristina: "No." she says blankly
Sky: "Dr. Yang, you can go and handle the pre-op labs now." she says making Cristina nod her head and walk away
Joe: "How much? How much does something like this cost?"
Derek: "Don't worry about that right now."
Joe: "Look, you guys say that you can kill me and bring me back, I believe you. You're doctors, but I own a bar. I don't got any insurance so I'm not that concerned about the surgery so much as what I'm gonna do when I survive it. I need a number. Ten grand? Twenty? Thirty?" he asks, his eyes widening as his guessing price goes up
Derek: "It's a couple hundred at least."
Sky: "At least."

Joe: "Heya, sunshine." he says when Cristina comes into his room but goes to the bathroom to throw up quickly
Cristina: "Deep breath." she says cleaning herself up before listening to his heart
Joe: "Morning sickness must suck."
Cristina: "Just so we're clear, do not breathe a word of what you heard last night to anyone. Not about me. Not about Meredith. Not about Meredith and Dr. McDreamy-"
Joe: "Hey, Dr. Rivers, Burke." he says stopping Cristina from talking as the two walk into the room
Sky: "Joe." she says smiling at him before turning to Cristina for updates
Cristina: "Um, vital signs stable overnight. Today's CT shows no re-bleeding. The EKG shows um, normal sinus rhythm. No ischemia, no dysrhythmias." she says stuttering a little bit before finally getting it all out
Burke: "Looking good."
Sky: "Page me if there are any changes." she says smiling at the two before walking back out

Derek: "That's as far as I can go for now" he says during the Joe's surgery "Let's start cooling him." he says as they start putting icepacks all around him

Sky: "We stop the blood flow?" she asks starting to question Cristina as they watch the nurses put more icepacks around Joe
Cristina: "To protect the brain. Operate in a bloodless field so the aneurysm won't rupture."
Sky: "And cool the body?"
Cristina: "To induce hypothermia. Keeps the tissue viable until the blood is restored."
Man: "Body temp is at 60 degrees."
Sky: "Ok, Joe. Time to die." she says as they turn off the machines
Woman: "Flatline."
Derek: "We've got 45 minutes, people."
Sky: "Start the clock."
Woman: "Got it." she says as Derek starts working on Joe

Derek: "So what's your "Joe" story? Seems like everybody here has one."
Sky: "You first."
Derek: "Ok. I went to Joe's place the night before I started working here. I'd only been in town, you know, a few days. I met this woman. I got drunk and she took advantage of me. Or she got drunk and I took advantage of her. I got drunk and she took...No. We were drunk. Definitely. Somebody took advantage" he says making Sky look at him in confusion for what he had just said "Either way, l look at it as my initiation to Seattle. What about you?"
Sky: "Oh, I don't have one. Haven't been in town long enough. I just wanted to hear yours." she says smirking at him as he chuckles at her
Derek: "Damn it. I can't get the clamp to hold. Give me the bipolars. I'm gonna go in at a different angle."
Sky: "Time remaining?"
Derek: "Irrigation, please."
Cristina: "17 minutes."
Sky: "Shepherd, I need eight minutes to get him back, to warm him up."
Derek: "Time to make the next 17 minutes count. Right there, go in from there. See it? See, that's why we can't do it right there."

Woman: "Eight minutes."
Sky: "We need to start rewarming, Shepherd."
Derek: "Take the bipolars, please. Thank you."
Sky: "Shepherd, we need to start warming him up, now!"
Derek: "Hang on."
Sky: "Now. I need it now, Shepherd."
Derek: "I can't seem to get I just can't get behind the aneurysm. If I could get behind the aneurysm, I could...There it is. Got it. That's it." he says finishing off his part
Sky: "Are you sure?"
Derek: "I'm always sure." he says looking up at where Burke is standing at in the gallery making him smirk a little "Good work, everybody. It's all yours there, ma lady." he says making her give him a breathy chuckle
Sky: "Ok, let's grab Joe before he decides to go into the light. Start warming him up. Clamps are coming off. Turn the pump on. Watch cerebral perfusion pressures. Keep M.A.P. at greater than 60, please."

Addison: "See? Just a small scar." she says after her and Meredith finish the woman's surgery
Woman: "And my babies?"
Addison: "Your babies are doing very well. And Dr. Grey will be back to check on you a little bit later."
Woman: "I'd prefer it if Dr. Grey were taken off the case."
Addison: "Why, is there a problem?"
Woman: "Just reminds me of someone I don't like. Someone my husband likes a lot. Particularly in lingerie. You understand."
Addison: "No, no, I don't understand." she says looking at the woman in confusion
Woman: "Well, she's sleeping with your husband, right?"
Addison: "Ms. Philips, I lack Dr. Grey's class and patience so, let me set the record straight. My husband didn't cheat on me, I cheated on him. So the wronged woman here, Dr. Grey. So, I think you owe her one hell of an apology" she says walking out to the nurses station. Giving the chart to one of the nurses after finishing her notes Addison goes to walk away and when she turns she sees Sky walking down the hall "Hey" she says walking up to Sky making her look up at the woman and freeze in her place "I heard you moved down here. I was shocked honestly. You always seemed to hate the rain." she says smiling a tiny bit as Sky just stares at her in silence for a moment before she reaches her hand up and slaps the Addison shocking the doctors and nurses standing at the desk and Meredith who had just come out or the patient's room
Sky: "I've wanted to do that for so long." she simply says before walking away from the woman and group of stunned people

Derek: "One night I parked my car, I unlock my front door, go inside my house, and something's different" he says explaining the situation to Meredith who stands in front of him "Nothing's different, everything's the same but yet, still, something's different. And I stand there for a while. And then I know. See, there are moments for me, you know, usually when I'm in the OR, when I just know what's gonna happen next. So I go upstairs. As I walk down the hall, I try to prepare myself for what I'm gonna see when I go into my bedroom. I step on a man's jacket that doesn't belong to me. And everything I think I know just shifts. Because the jacket that doesn't belong to me is a jacket that I recognize. And what I know now is that when I go into my bedroom, I'm not just gonna see that my wife is cheating on me. I'm gonna see that my wife is cheating on me with Mark, who happened to be my best friend. And afterwards I had to deliver possibly the worse news to my best friend on her anniversary that her husband cheated on her." he says as she sits next to him
Meredith: "Sky." she says remembering how said woman slapped Addison, making him nod his head before taking a sip of his beer
Derek: "It's just so pedestrian, common and dirty, and cruel. Mostly just cruel. I left. Came out here."
Meredith: "And you met me."
Derek: "And I met you."
Meredith: "Well, what was I to you? The girl you screwed to get over being screwed?"
Derek: "You were like coming up for fresh air. It's like I was drowning and you saved me. That's all I know."
Meredith: "It's not enough." she says standing up before walking to her car and driving away

Sky is sitting in a chair on her apartment balcony watching the rain fall while taking a sip from her bottle of vodka when her apartment door opens and Derek walks in searching for the women seeing where she's at and going over to him

Derek: "You were right" he sighs out sitting in the chair next to her "I should of told her from the beginning. I screwed up."
Sky: "I slapped Addison." she says taking another sip from her bottle before handing it over to Derek who takes a huge sip from it
Derek: "Hard?"
Sky: "Very." she says as he hums before taking another sip and then handing the bottle back to her
