When Jin had fallen asleep the night before, he had been excited to be able to wake up next to Jungkook. He had fallen with Jungkook in his arms, his head nuzzling his hair, smelling his soft vanilla smell. Instead, he woke up to a snoring Namjoon who had his mouth wide open for Jin to smell his nasty morning breathe.
"Gross," Jin mumbled grumpily as he pushed Namjoon's face so that it faced Yoongi's face instead. That was a big mistake as Yoongi immediately woke up at the smell of Namjoon's morning breathe and kicked him awake.
"Fucking bastard... waking me up like this..." Yoongi grumbled as he tried to go back to sleep, ignoring Namjoon waking up with a shock at the feeling of being kicked. Jin smiled lazily at the humorous scene but stopped smiling when he noticed that Jungkook wasn't with them.
"Where's Jungkook?" He asked out loud. The others had been all slowly waking up. Yoongi's kick had created a sort of domino effect and one by one, they all started to get up.
"No idea," Taehyung huskily answered, his morning voice sounding deeper than the sea.
"His bag isn't here," Hoseok noticed, a small frown starting to form on his face. This observation made all of them panic a bit. Even Yoongi, who tried to go to sleep was now awake and alert. They all silently got up and made their way down the stairs. They remembered the feeling they got when Jungkook was kidnapped and they couldn't help but feel dread creeping up their backs. Jin walked with a purpose and he could feel his breath start to quicken.
He finally arrived down the stairs and looked around. He sighed in relief at the sight of Jungkook sleeping on a desk with books and papers surrounding him.
"What was he doing?" Jimin wondered at loud as he looked at the handwritten notes. Jin ignored the papers and softly shook Jungkook's shoulders.
"Sweetheart? Are you okay?" Jin gently inquired. Jungkook slowly opened his eyes and automatically smiled when he saw Jin.
"Hi," He whispered cutely making Jin smile back.
"Hi baby." Jungkook bushed a bit and smiled a bit bigger when he suddenly froze.
"Purgatory!" He screamed, making all of the others flinch.
"What?" Yoongi asked confusedly as they worriedly watched Jungkook gather all his papers and open a book.
"That's what he's trying to do! He's trying to open purgatory." Jungkook exclaimed as he opened the book to show them a page with a huge circle on it.
"Jungkook, you're not making sense. Purgatory is only a myth." Namjoon frowned, doubt colouring his words.
"That's what they want you to believe! The first lesson you are taught as a healer is that when you die, your body must be taken care of in the proper way and that it does not fall in the wrong hands. Due to ashes of a dead healer being one of the most important ingredients to open a gate." Jungkook as he continued to look through his notes for something.
"Wait, wait. What's purgatory?" Taehyung asked.
"It's a place in myths that were used to explain where our powers came from. They say that there are different kingdoms with gods or divine creatures that bless humans with powers fueled by their own kingdom. Purgatory is said to be the land of darkness and shadows. It is actually where they say you're power is based on." Namjoon answered Taehyung, speaking to him directly at the end. The others all stared in shock and Taehyung felt a shiver go down his spine at the fear in Namjoon's voice.
They all watched in silence as Jungkook looked through his notes, muttering to himself as though he was possessed. Hoseok watched worriedly at Jungkook's eye bags and his shaking hands. He was obviously exhausted and all of his instincts were telling him to hug the boy and bring him to bed.
"There!" Jungkook exclaimed as he showed them a paper. "Oleander flower, ashes of a healer, blood from any gifted people and a circle made of various different metals."
Jungkook grabbed another paper and drew a big circle.
"All the receipts we found that were odd, it was for the circle. All the different metals are crucial as it is believed that by mixing different metals into a perfect circle, it'll be so strong that nothing can break it."
He took a blue pen and started filling the circle he made.
"He'll fill the circle with water to create a gate. The best would be lava but that would be too complicated. Since he won't use lava, he'll need to strengthen the power of the water so he can only do it during a full moon."
Jungkook grabbed another book and opened it at a specific page where faceless shadows and monsters were drawn.
"He'll put the oleander, the ashes of a healer and finally, his own blood. By using his own blood, he'll be able to control these creatures and use them."
Jungkook was breathing hard and he looked with wide eyes at his own drawing. The others watched warily as he gently brushed the circle with his finger, an expression of amazement of his face. The amazement didn't last and his face quickly scrunched up into a frown and tears emerged. Jungkook started crying and Hoseok couldn't help but lean to touch Jungkook but he flinched back.
"He'll kill us! He'll kill everybody!" Jungkook was sobbing and Jimin's heart broke at the sight of the obviously burdened and exhausted boy.
"Jungkook," Jin said in a hushed tone. He walked slowly towards the boy and hugged him, ignoring his protests and weak attempts to push him away. "It's okay to cry, my Love. Let it out." And he did.
Jungkook cried and cried. He cried for all the healers that died that day. He cried for his mentor. He cried for Jae-Seong. Finally, he cried for the men he loved. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
The six others tried not to cry at his gut-wrenching cries. Hoseok couldn't stand there and do nothing so he used his power to grab all the mattresses and blankets from the bedroom to bring it downstairs quickly. Jin carried Jungkook and softly laid him on the mattress.
Jungkook opened his mouth to complain, but Jimin just shushed him.
"You are tired and not in the best mind-set. Take a break today. We will prepare tomorrow." He ordered, his voice solid. Jungkook hesitated but nodded at his words. His tears were starting to dry and his head started feeling fuzzy. His lack of sleep was becoming an inevitable obstacle and he tried not to succumb to sleep. In his exhausted state, he couldn't help but finally be honest with himself. I love them. I love them so much.
As he fell asleep, the others climbed in the bed and softly pet his hair or held his hand.
"What are we going to do?" Jin whispered, fear making his words sound strained.
"I don't know for now. But we'll come up with something. Together." Yoongi firmly said, his strong, hard words giving a sense of relief to all except one.
Namjoon watched the sleeping boy with a frown and he knew that Jungkook was hiding something.
Why can't I read your thoughts anymore? Namjoon thought. What are you hiding?
