In which you can have telepathic conversations with your soulmate.

Everyone was paired up with a soulmate, yet there was always a chance you would never meet yours. The most common case was that your soulmate died before you even meet them. Either way, you were supposed to hear your soulmate's voice in your head around your teen years, and once you have, you could telepathically communicate with them.

Emperor and Aqua

Emperor rolled his eyes.

"Of course I would tell you if I heard their voice, Mom," he sighed in exasperation as Edgar frowned at him. "I haven't heard it yet, I swear."

Edgar swished her tail over her paws. "You sure?"

Emperor groaned softly. "Yes, I'm sure."

Edgar's gaze softened but it was still laced with worry.

"I never heard my soulmate's voice, Em. I'm just worried it'll happen to you too," she muttered, glancing down at her paws.

The irritation left Emperor and he slid forward to lean lightly on his mother to comfort her. "I'm sorry, Mom."

Edgar shook her head softly. "It's fine. I'm just praying the same thing that happened to me won't happen to you."

// time skip brought to you by Apollo screaming we're all gonna die //

Emperor was well into his teen years and he still hasn't heard his soulmate's voice yet.

Of course, he told Edgar, and she was very saddened by the news.

Emperor didn't let it bother him though. Why would he need a soulmate? Being the heir to his father's organization and someday, being the leader of the organization, was enough.

He was happy when Azure told him he had heard his soulmate's voice.

His sweet little brother deserved one after all. (especially with all the pain Emperor's gonna put him through)

// another time skip brought to you by the demons //

Emperor was a demon now.

If you'd ask him now, if he deserved a soulmate, he'd laugh at you.

Being in the cramped darkness of the Devil's Key was anything but pleasant.

Emperor could only view things from afar, thanks to Amen. He didn't like it, but he'd have to bear with it.

It did tick him off though, only being able to speak in very few minds and see very few things. His powers were limited even though they empowered the key.

Being in the cramped darkness of the Devil's Key was much like torture.

Yet in the cramped darkness of the Devil's Key, he heard a voice.

It was smooth and very soft. If Emperor had to guess, it belonged to a female, most likely a teen.

It startled him.

Ugh. I don't want to do another lesson.

Emperor was blinking furiously.

He glanced around, but he knew for sure he had no telepathic links open to influence Devotee's thoughts at the moment, and all he saw was darkness.

There was no one with him.

Who had spoken then?

He was hesitant, staying silent.

So he hadn't heard his soulmate's voice back then because she wasn't born yet?

He blinked, processing what he had inferred.
