Little Companions Part 1

Inspired by a Tumblr post: Imagine your favorite fictional character as a small version of themself and they always sit on your shoulder, commenting about everything around you.

"I am not happy with you four," I claimed sternly, pointing down at them. "I can't trust any of you to behave after what happened."

The little creatures - specifically the brothers, Devotee and Escapee, had gotten into a fight, and the two assigned to look after them in case anything happened, Emperor and Amen, did nothing to intervene.

In the beginning, I had no idea where they had come from.

Sure, they originated from my creativity, my imagination, but how the hell did they come to life?

And why were they so small?

To say that the dragons I had created were tiny was an understatement.

These... figures from my imagination could fit inside my palm. That's how tiny they were.

Well, I still didn't know how they had appeared and why, but they were stuck with me now, and I was stuck with them.

I had managed to get my old fish aquarium to make it their home, hidden sufficiently on top of my drawers, between my TV and one of my large bookcases, and I kept a cloth over it so it appeared like a covered box.

It was difficult stuffing all of them into that aquarium, but it'd be much worse if the characters part of their stories that I hadn't created were there too.

I can't help but wonder if they had come to life with their creators too.

If my little creatures were found, I had absolutely no idea how to explain them to the rest of my family. I didn't even want to think about it.

The boys didn't particularly get along, even though I had learned none of them held memories of what happened in my stories that they were involved in.

They knew their names and who they were related to but that was it.

Sadly, they didn't seem to remember their mates.

Anyway, messed up backstories and events weren't needed for them to dislike each other though.

Occasional sibling rivalry happened anyway, right?

The four males - Devotee, Escapee, Emperor, and Amen - were looking up at me with pouts, I believe.

The other little creatures were huddled away in the corner, either watching with blank, smug, or anxious looks.

I never liked unveiling their little home due to the risk of them getting caught, and I knew neither did they.

Escapee was the one who spoke out first with one arm lifted up to point a talon at his brother.

"He started it."

I rolled my eyes.

"Esc, don't start out with that bs. I didn't ask who started it."

Devotee shot Escapee a pointed look, an all too familiar smirk beginning to form on his jaws until I snapped my fingers to grab their attention again.

"Ah, ah," I chided. "You're in trouble too, Dev."

I could practically feel Escapee trying not to snicker.

I sighed.

Sometimes, I regretted making them too smug and full of themselves.

"I'm going out, and because of your earlier actions, I'm taking you all with me," I declared.
