The world of the living had been plunged into darkness. Demonic forces had risen, threatening all forms of life. In the clash between the living and the dead, countless blood had been spilt with brute force and magic. In the end, after many years of war and bloodshed, the mortals had emerged victorious, giving way to many prospering years for the living.
That was 500 years ago.
Hera often wondered how the humans had managed to win the Demon War, but she was ever so thankful for their victory. Who knows what their kind might've ended up as.
Would they have been slaves? Mere toys and workers for the unholy beings?
While demons still existed, they were no longer as powerful as they used to be. They were only mere sightings, and were successfully banished if confronted.
Of course, humans back then were highly, highly skilled in magic and combat, but as major conflicts happened over the next years, the race drifted away from those ways, relying on technology.
Though humans still did use magic to this day, it was only for small tricks and tasks, and combat moves were rare appearances. Those that still practiced magic and/or combat regularly were rare.
Her phone dinged and she checked it.
You're thinking again.
Hera snorted at her text she had received from the person beside her, tearing her gaze from her phone to roll her eyes at her best friend, Loki.
The black-haired teen snickered, putting his phone away into his pocket to adjust the backpack straps on his shoulders.
"You know I'm right beside you, right, Lokes?" Hera snorted at him, shoving her phone back into her jean pocket as well as they continued to walk through the poorly lit area.
The two were usually picked up by their parents or an assigned driver, but today, for some very odd reason, there was no car in sight.
Both had texted their parents that they would be walking to their homes together. Perks of living in the same building with your friend.
"It's funny to see you annoyed though," came Loki's reply as he smirked.
This prompted Hera to roll her eyes again, and she tucked a lock of her dark brown hair behind her ear.
"Yeah, yeah," she scoffed.
Loki's smirk grew but his eyes sparkled with curiosity. "What were you thinking about?"
"Oh, about history class today," she answered.
The Demon War was one of the most famous events in history, and it was usually retaught to the higher graders to remind them how important the humans worked together during that time.
Loki raised a brow. "The Demon War? You're so fascinated with it, I swear."
Hera shot him a soft glare. "Of course I am. Imagine if the humans failed?"
Loki's brows furrowed. "Bad news for us, of course."
Hera nodded in agreement. "Yep. Definitely."
The two turned into a dark alleyway absentmindedly. Though they haven't walked home in a long time, they knew the way by heart.
"Wanna crash at my room tonight?" Loki suggested. "We can study and eat junk food."
Hera's face scrunched up slightly in disgust. "How about we play games and eat junk food? Sounds like a better plan to me."
Loki rolled his red eyes. "How about we study the Demon War then? Though I doubt you need to. You basically know every fact about it."
Hera smirked proudly in response. "You are correct. I could teach you and then we play games?"
