The next morning, I wandered downstairs. The house looked larger in the red morning light, and I wasn't quite sure of my way around. Following the sound of pots and pans in the kitchen, I found Alastor scrambling eggs and frying bacon, shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows as he worked.
"Do you not have hired help?" I asked curiously, watching the Radio Demon cook.
"I don't like strangers running around my home," Alastor said cheerfully, looking at me over his shoulder, "Are you hungry, my dear?" Tucking a lock of hair behind my ear with my bandaged hand, I nodded and took a seat at the kitchen table.
"Thank you," I said graciously as Alastor sat a plate of eggs and bacon in front of me before taking a seat across from me with his own plate. I nibbled on a slice of the delicious bacon while trying to figure out what to say next. Thankfully though, Alastor took the lead.
"Do you have a friend you could stay with?" He asked, "Or another relative?" Wordlessly, I shook my head, appetite vanishing. Any friend I had made within our secluded time capsule had been chased off one way or another by Edgar and Mary. As for relatives, they were all I had here in Hell.
"I see." Alastor said, his smile waning a bit, "Well, we can't have you going back there. You are more than welcome to stay here as my guest."
"I can't impose on you like that," I exclaimed. Alastor had already done so much for me, I couldn't ask him to do more.
"I insist," He said with a dismissive wave of his hand, then added with a wry chuckle, "Besides, it will royally piss off your cousin."
