Sighing, I got out of bed and threw on a robe before going to the door. Opening it, I came face to face with a scowling Edgar.
"What in the nine circles was so important that it could not wait until morning?" I asked, yawning pointedly. Better to act nonchalant than scared when Edgar was in one of his fits.
Clenching his fist, my cousin snarled, "You filthy little ingrate. You disrespected both my wife and I tonight, and in front of guests too! And if that wasn't bad enough, you acted like an absolute trollop!"
"Oh for heaven's sake!" I sighed, "You take offense to everything, Edgar." I turned on my heel and went back into my room, done with this infernal conversation. But instead of leaving it be, Edgar followed me inside, still ranting.
"It's my house, I can act however I damn well please!" He shouted, his grating voice taking on a whining tone that gave me an instant headache. I went over to the dresser, where I had some medicine next to the summoning stone. As I grabbed the small box of pills, a decorative vase shattered against the wall not a foot from my head.
Spinning around, I stared wide-eyed at Edgar, "Edgar! Go to bed!" Instead, Edgar stormed up to me, his finger pointing in my face. Without thinking, I snatched up the stone. It was a decent size, if I needed to I could always throw it at him as a distraction so I could escape.
"You ungrateful little hussy." Edgar spat, "You demonic little shit," As he raved at me, he put both hands out and shoved me. With a yelp, I fell backward, landing right among the shattered vase.
Stunned, I looked from Edgar, who was still yelling at me, to my palm. A shard of the vase had cut deep into my palm when I landed, and blood was now welling up. Without thinking, I pressed the summoning stone into my bloody palm.
The next thing I knew, all chaos broke loose.
