Part 20

~Justin's POV~ Lilith seemed okay with this, but I could see a hint of sadness in her eyes. I definitely wasn't hiding how I was feeling, I was moping around everywhere. "Stop mopping, Justin," Lilith spoke up, breaking our silence in her mom's hospital room. "Your making me even more upset." She said looking down at her hands and intertwining her fingers together. "Sorry, Lil. I'm just really not in the mood to go on tour." I said with a little laugh, and she gave me a sideways smile. "I know. But it's only for two months, you'll be back in no time. And you'll have fun." She said trying to lighten my mood, she succeeded and I smiled at her. Neither of us said anything, just looking at either our own hands, or her mom in the hospital bed, sleeping at the moment. Lilith hadn't gotten much time to speak with her, the doctor said her cancer makes her sleep a lot more than normal. I saw that Lilith kept looking at her mom in bed, and she was having to fight her tears really hard, so I took her hand, unhooking her own fingers and intertwining them with mine. She looked up at me and smiled, which resulted in me smiling back. We sat hand-in-hand for a while, with the beeps of her mothers heart beat being the only noise. Until the silence was broken - again - "L-Lilith...?" Her mom stammered. Lilith jumped up and went to her mothers side, saying "Yes? Mama? How are you feeling?" She frantically asked. "Baby, I wanted to tell you myself that I've decided not to have the surgery. The doctor said there's only a small chance of me surviving that anyway, I don't want to spend my last days in pain." Lilith froze. "W-what?! Mom you HAVE to have the surgery! There's still a chance you will survive! We HAVE to try, please!" Lilith was trying again to keep the tears from falling, but a couple still fell here and there. "Lily, let me have this, I'm finally doing something for me, Hun. Please understand. I want to spend this time with you!" Her mom looked very... Weak, and so fragile that if I did as little as touch her. "Okay, mom. I'm sorry." Her mom gave her a smile that said 'it's okay' and then she said "Now, who is this?" She said motioning to me. "Oh this is Justin, mom. My uh, my boyfriend." Lilith said, smiling when the word 'boyfriend' came out of her mouth. I giggled a bit, and then I stuck out my hand and smiled at her "Nice to meet you, Ms. Carson." I said trying to be as polite as possible to earn her approval. "It's a pleasure to meet you too! And please call me Vanessa." She said smiling, I nodded. We then proceeded to make small talk, she asked me about my career. I was actually having fun, I liked her mom. After a little while Vanessa got serious, she looked Lilith in the eyes, "Lily, honey. I want you to be good, okay? I love you so much." Lilith looked confused, but she nodded and hugged her mom. "Justin," she turned to me "I need you to take care of my daughter, don't leave her, she needs you. Will you do that for me?" She said never breaking eye contact. "Yes, of course. I promise." She smiled and leaned back into her pillows. Lilith grabbed her hand and whispered 'I love you' to her, then, silence. Lilith squeezed her eyes shut which made tears stream down her face, but she didn't make a sound. We were just sitting there when all the sudden, we heard a long, continuous beep, coming from Vanessa's heart monitor.
