TRIGGER WARNING: SELF-HARM
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
Takes place after the Tournament. Samurai X Cave. Everyone is having a party to celebrate the defeat of Master Chen
3rd Person P.O.V
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Samurai X Cave was a mess of motion and sound.
After their victory at the Corridor of Elders, the Ninja had invited the Elemental Masters to celebrate with them at the Cave. Most had taken no time to marvel at the high tech gadgets and all the superior vehicles and had started pulling out decorations, going to get snacks and drinks, and setting up a speaker system. Which Turner had claimed, much to Jay's annoyance. Neuro managed to get them to comprise. One would DJ for an hour, then the other would DJ for an hour. Who went first was determined with a game of rock, paper, clam. Turner won, and now "Die Young" by Kesha was blaring through the speakers.
Everyone else was having fun; some, like Nya, Skylar, Tox, and Chamille, were dancing, some, like Jacob, Zane, Lloyd, Neuro, and Gravis, were talking at the outskirts, and others, like Paleman, Karloff, Ash, Cole, and Bolobo were trying to get blackout drunk. The only ones not really participating were Kai and Shade.
Shade had no idea where Kai was. He'd thought the Fire Master would want to be with Skylar, which made his heart clench in sorrow, but surprisingly he hasn't seen Kai since the Corridor. He didn't know whether he was happy Kai wasn't here or if he was upset.
Scratch that, he did know, he was upset.
He sighed and looked around again, wanting to know where Kai was. He just wanted the chance to tell Kai how he felt, but he was certain Kai didn't feel the same. Kai had made it obvious during the Tournament when he went chasing after Skylar, but some, naïve part of him still secretly hoped Kai liked him back.
Shade walked over toward Zane, who was currently in quite a debate with Neuro about architecture, and lightly tapped his shoulder. Zane and Neuro stopped and looked at Shade.
"Um, I was wondering if you knew where the restroom was. Since you know more about this place than I do," Shade mumbled. Zane smiled and pointed down the walkway, to the right of a giant computer console.
"Right down there. Last door on the left," Zane replied. Shade thanked him and darted down the hall to the restroom, slamming the door shut behind him. Even then, he could still hear the faint thrumming of the song "Turn the Music Up" by NF through the door.
Shade closed his eyes, let out a pained breath, and slipped to the floor, next to the toilet. Why did the knowledge of Kai liking someone else hurt him so much?
It's because you love him more than you realize, a voice whispered from deep inside him. Shade swallowed back a sob, but it was no use. It didn't take long before he was crying his eyes out.
(Trigger warning. Read at your own risk)
"Stupid me. Why do I still believe he might like me back? He won't want to deal with just how messed up I am!" Shade sobbed. His eyes then slid to his pocket and, after a moment of hesitation, he pulled out a small knife and slowly started making little nicks on his left wrist. One after another. Down his arm, wrist to elbow on his left arm. Then went back and made more nicks in between the previous marks. He had just finished with his left arm and was about to move on to his right when the door creaked open. Shade looked up, horrified, and met a pair of grey eyes. Shade's blood ran cold when he realized the intruder was Kai.
Kai's eyes were wide with shock and, was that concern? Shade couldn't tell. He was only aware of his own pounding heart at the realization he had been caught. By his crush, no less!
"I-I, uh, can hopefully explain?" Shade croaked out, clutching the small knife in his right hand while blood ran down his left arm. Kai blinked and a moment later was at Shade's side, undoing his sash to try to stop the bleeding. Shade couldn't bring himself to look at Kai.
"Stay here. I'm going to get bandages. Leave my sash on and give me the knife," Kai said sternly, holding his left hand out. Shade sighed in defeat and gave him the knife. Kai was gone a second later, leaving Shade sitting on the bathroom floor, covered in his blood.
Kai was back in no more than five minutes, arms full with medical supplies. He put them on the floor, next to Shade. Then he motioned for Shade to stand up. Shade sighed and obeyed. Kai led him over to the sink, turned on the water, and started washing off the blood. No words were spoken, and the silence was starting to make Shade uneasy. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore.
(Trigger warning done. )
"I'm sorry," he whispered, "it's just that I couldn't help myself. I-I don't know how to cope with sadness any other way."
"So, this isn't the first time?" Kai asked, surprised. Shade shook his head.
"I've been doing it since I've been 15......" he mumbled. Kai closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Okay, um, hold still. I'm going to put the bandages on, okay?" Kai replied, picking up the bandages and unrolling them. Shade nodded and held his arm out.
"So, why were you upset? You mentioned doing this because you were sad," Kai asked. Shade bit his lip then mumbled:
"I didn't think you would be interested in being in a relationship with me."
He thought he said it quietly, but he forgot Kai was a Ninja. His ears were a lot sharper than Shade had anticipated.
"You like me?" Kai gasped, stopping in his task to gawk at Shade. Shade could only nod and squeezed his eyes shut, waiting for the rejecion.
It never came.
What did, however, was a soft kiss on his cheek. He opened his eyes to look at Kai, who was softly smiling at him.
"I do like you Shade. Why do you think I've not been with Skylar?" Kai replied and went back to his task of bandging Shade's arm. Shade watched Kai do this, his heart beating rapidly.
"You-You do?" he stammered.
Kai smiled a little wider and replied, "Yeah. I know, it was surprising at first when I realized it, but I realized that I didn't mind. I was looking for you at the Corridor earlier, so I could talk to you, but you weren't there. I called Zane to see if he knew where you were, told me you were here. So, I came here and Zane told me you were in the restroom. I waited a few minutes, then I got the feeling that something was wrong. And I was right."
Shade smiled a bit, blushing. Kai finished with the bandages and started putting the medical supplies away.
"Thank you," Shade murmured. Kai grinned at him.
"No problem. Nothing I couldn't handle. Now, how about me and you go join the party? Jay has taken over the DJ stand and I may have talked him into playing a slow song so we could dance and talk a little more," Kai replied. Shade laughed a bit and let Kai drag him out of the restroom. They were almost back when Kai stopped and looked at Shade.
"Hey, Shade?"
"Yeah, Kai?"
"Can you promise me something?"
"Depends on what it is."
"If you ever feel like cutting again, just come talk to me instead. I don't want to see you wind up six feet under because you were afraid to talk to me."
Shade looked at Kai and whispered:
"I promise."
