It's barely gone 3am when Remington's alarm goes off. He blindly fiddles with his phone until it stops and buries his face in the pillow.
He'd only just got to sleep an hour ago. He had been tossing and turning for ages, so unbelievably anxious about what happens today.
It's the first day of tour.
The boy is drifting off to sleep when Sebastian comes in the room. "Hey, bud, you gotta get up. The bus will be here in half an hour." He keeps his voice hushed and avoids touching his brother, aware that it might startle him in this fragile and tired state. Remington whines, wanting to go back to sleep. "I'll make you some coffee, alright, try not to go back to sleep."
Sebastian goes downstairs, already having decided that, if the singer doesn't get up, he'll just carry him down to the bus when it arrives and tuck him straight into his bunk. He doesn't want Remington exhausted for the first show. He's got enough going on as it is.
In his bed, Remington curls up and closes his eyes. He doesn't want to go on tour.
When Sebastian goes back up to see how his brother is doing, he discovers that the boy is fast asleep, so carries his bags down to the porch, where his are waiting, and pours the coffee into a flask.
The bus pulls up outside after twenty minutes and Emerson gets off, coming to help his band mates with their things. "Where's Remington?" He asks, seeing as the boy isn't downstairs.
"I'm letting him sleep. He hardly slept last night. I'll just carry him."
The two load everything onto the vehicle and then Sebastian goes to get Remington, scooping the boy into his arms. Remington whimpers at the movement. "You're okay," the guitarist whispers, stepping onto the bus and heading straight for the bunks. They've organised it so that Remington is closest to the bathroom and furthest away from Alexis.
He lies Remington down in the bed covers him up, turning to leave. Remington reaches out and grabs his arm, pulling him back. "Stay," he mumbles.
Sebastian smiles. He takes his shoes off and gets in beside his brother, holding the boy to his chest like usual.
The bus stops to pick up Andrew, Daniel, and finally Alexis, and by the time everyone is on, Sebastian and Remington are fast asleep.
Remington wakes in a shock at around 11am, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. He can hear voices from the living area of the bus, and turns to look at Sebastian as the man wakes at the sudden movement. "Fantastic start," he says sarcastically.
He gets dressed in the small bathroom and swallow down his pills.
They're not for his stab wound anymore. He went for a checkup three weeks ago and was given the green light.
These pills were prescribed by Abigail. She said they'll settle his anxiety, but he doesn't really believe that they work.
He opens the door and inhales a sharp breath, eyes widening.
Alexis stands just feet away from him, totally unaware of the fear she brings the boy.
Remington stumbles backwards, not knowing what to do. Does he call for one of his brothers and risk her becoming suspicious?
"Remington?" She questions, "can I use the shower?"
The singer can't process her words. He watches her lips moving and all that he can see is Holly talking. Shouting. Screaming.
"Emerson!" He calls, desperate, and the drummer comes to his rescue, pushing the girl aside and taking Remington in his arms.
The younger brother guides him away from Alexis. "You're okay," he says calmly, "no one's going to hurt you."
Remington sits on the couch and sighs. "All I can see," he whispers, "is Holly." He accepts the coffee from Sebastian. "What do we do if she starts asking why I'm scared of her?"
"That's up to you, Remington. We won't say anything without you telling us to."
Alexis emerges from the shower and Remington has to turn his head the other way. He has no doubt be looks suspicious, strange. He can't help it.
"Did you sleep well?" Sebastian asks, keeping the conversation away from the singer.
The photographer walks past Remington and he holds his breath. "I did, thank you."
God, Remington thinks, she even sounds like Holly.
He doesn't even have the strength to tell himself she isn't Holly. She might as well be at this point. He's as scared of Alexis as he is of Holly.
They might as well be the same person.
