Chapter 67

User 1: not to start rumours or anything but doesn't it seem like Palaye are coming to the end of their careers?

User 2: @user1 thinking the same thing. They used to do anything they could to make sure a show was cancelled and then they go and cancel a whole tour? Seems like they aren't dedicated anymore.

User 3: @user1 @user 2 something's going on with Remington. Just look at one of his recent posts or stories. He doesn't look right.

User 1: @user3 ur right. And he hasn't posted a pic with Holly for months. Those two were practically joined at the hip.

User 4: Guys don't speculate!

User 2: @user4 we deserve to know why the tour was cancelled. They let down thousands of people and never said why. Seems very immature.

User 4: @user2 They are people too. Their lives don't revolve around fans all of the time. You have no right to be asking about their personal lives.

User 2: @user4 We have a right to know why they cancelled so many shows.

User 4: @user2 no you don't. They wouldn't do that unless something really bad is going on that we don't know about. respect their privacy. They're only human.

User 5: @user1 They never had careers to begin with. Those guys are a fucking joke. I bet they're not even actually brothers.

Abigail is pleased to discover that Remington has started taking the medication again, and makes sure to congratulate him about it so he doesn't feel ignored. She is aware of how easy it can be to feel ignored when you've been through something as terrible as Remington has. She asks him about the self harm that he mentioned in his notebook, which is nearly full, and he tells her about the weird hallucination he had in the bathroom.

After therapy, decides to walk into town to buy a new notebook and some eyeliner, since his ran out the other day. He finds nice hard back notebook and ends up getting two different eyeliners, not sure which one is better.

When he gets home he greets his brothers, who are having lunch in the dining room, and joins them. "Hey Em," he says, "no hat?" He sits down opposite Emerson and next to Sebastian and spoons some risotto onto his plate.

Emerson smiles. "What? Oh-Shy wanted to wear it today."

The singer finds that so adorable. "How is Shy? I haven't seen her for ages."

"She's great. Busy, but enjoying her job. We should all have a meal or something and catch up," he suggests, hopeful. He misses his best friend. He understands that Remington needs quiet and he can see that Sebastian is doing a good job with looking after him.

Remington hesitates at the question. He doesn't really like the idea of being around lots of people. "Yeah, maybe," he mumbles, looking away, awkward.

Later on, Remington comes across the comments under a fan edit, tearing up as he reads them. Why do people so desperately want to know? He feels so terrible for his fans, that they've been left in the dark. But it's not like they'd enjoy the truth.

Remington Leith Tweeted: I try to be open with you all, but sometimes there are things that need to stay just between me and my brothers. Please respect this. I apologise endlessly for disappointing you all by cancelling the tour, but I promise there was nothing we could have done. You all know we'd never cancel a show willingly. It was a heart breaking decision for all of us to make, and I feel worse about it every day.

He doesn't look at his phone again after posting that, knowing he'll be getting hundreds of comments. Reading them won't do him any good.

Both of his brothers re-tweet his message so that everyone can see it, understanding that Remington has only posted it because he's feeling worse about it today that perhaps he has been recently. Sebastian sits with him in the evening and the two watch television together, but Remington is unsettled. His mind is stuck on those comments, and he wants to know what else people have been saying.

And then he remembers about Genevieve, how she is expecting him to tell her what really happened. He internally groans at that thought, not happy about it at all.

Remington lies in bed very early in the morning, scrolling through and reading hundreds and hundreds of comments about him and his brothers. People arguing over what caused them to cancel, people arguing about how it isn't right to argue about this.

He has so many private messages, and makes the mistake of looking at most of them.

Why did you cancel tour?

Why is tour cancelled?

How could you let everyone down like that?

You're a disgrace to rock music.

I feel sorry for your brothers.

How's Holly?

How can people be so mean? What makes them think that they have the right to ask him these things? How can they talk to him like that?

Surely, if they have the right to talk to him like that, then he can't be blamed for answering, can he?
