Trigger warning: Mentions of physical and emotional abuse.
A couple of days go by before Remington finds the confidence to text Andy. He types out a short, simple message, hesitating before pressing send.
Hey, it's Remington.
Sending it makes him anxious. What if Andy doesn't like him anymore?
Thought my number had been washed off before you save it hahaha, good to hear from you.
Remington smiles at the screen.
Ha! I've been trying to text you for a while, anxiety is a bitch.
Cute.
The one word reply makes him blush. He begins typing out a reply when Emerson bursts into the room to announce that him and Shy are going out. Remington makes a sound of acknowledgement.
Funny.
Not kidding.
Remington stares at the words. Is Andy flirting with him? Is that what's happening?
Oh, thank you.
You're welcome. How's Palaye Royale going?
It's going really well. We've got a new album coming out soon. How about your music?
We're re-recording the first Black Veil Brides album now that we've all improved and my Andy Black solo project is going really well. My second album has done really well and I'm about to start touring.
Oh, The Ghost Of Ohio. I really like the songs in that and your voice is insane! The Martyr has been getting me through some shit.
Glad you like it! Hope you're okay with that shit you've been going through. Ever need to talk, I'm here, okay?
Remington doesn't know what to type. He's never had anyone outside of his close family genuinely care like this. He ends up not responding at all and the conversation ends, leaving the boy confused as to whether Andy was flirting or not.
It's hours later when he gets another message, stopping what he's doing to read it.
You doing anything right now??
Is Andy about to ask him out?
No, why?Perfect. Meet me at the coffee shop in ten minutes.
Okay but why?
I already said. I wanna get to know you. You intrigue me. See u there x
Remington gets himself ready by re-doing his hair and putting on a bit of eyeshadow. He leaves a note for Emerson and Shy in case they get back before him. The teasing he's going to have to endure when they find out he's been to see Andy is gonna be annoying, he's sure. But totally worth it.
He walks down to the coffee shop and just as he gets to the door the tall man he's been drooling over appears, a warm smile on his face.
"Hey, Remington," he greets, the way he says the boy's name making his heart flutter. "What do you want to drink?"
Remington smiles, trying to hide his nervousness. "It's okay, I'll get my own."
Andy shakes his head and takes the younger's hand. "I invited you here so I'll buy you a drink. So what do you want?"
"Just a regular coffee is fine," he tells the man. "Why did you want to meet me?"
After ordering the drinks and paying, Andy replies. "I want to know more about you because you intrigue me," he says, for what must be the millionth time.
Remington smiles, though still confused. "But I'm boring," he mumbles, mainly to himself.
"I disagree," Andy says with ease, picking up the two coffees and handing one to Remington, who thanks him quietly.
"You do?"
The man nods, taking a sip of his drink once they're sat at a table. "You're anything but boring, Remington," he says, sending the younger man a flirtatious smile. "So how are you?"
Remington sips his drink before replying. "I'm great, actually. Thanks for the coffee."
"That's good, and you're welcome. You've got a really cute smile, you know that?"
Blushing, the boy looks away, not sure how to respond to a compliment after so long of receiving only insults. "Thanks."
"I hope it's not rude of me to ask," Andy begins, "but that shitty girlfriend you mentioned; what did she do? Are you still together?
Remington circles his finger around the top of the mug. "Lots of shit," he answers quietly, not wanting to be overheard. "Y'know, telling me my whole life is a joke and that she's the only good thing is it. That I'm fat and ugly and my music is shit." He looks across at Andy, seeing his frown and wishing he hadn't said anything.
"That's awful, I'm so sorry."
"Well I obviously deserve it, so..."
"Don't be ridiculous, no you don't. No one who loves you should ever do that to you. Did she hurt you, too?"
Remington nods.
"Fuck."
"Sorry."
"For what?"
"Existing?"
Andy shakes his head. "Sweetheart, your existence is beautiful." Sweetheart. It makes Remington's heart flutter hopelessly.
"You don't need to make me feel better, Andy, it's fine. She only did it 'cause I needed to know how pathetic I am. Did it for my own good."
"Number one, I do need to make you feel better because I can't bear to see you hurt. Number two, she did it because she's an awful person. Three, don't you believe anything she said. You didn't deserve any of it."
Remington sips his drink to avoid Andy's pretty gaze.
Andy wants to ask how often she'd hurt him but can see the conversation is making Remington uncomfortable and so decides not to. Instead, he changes to topic and tells the boy about an awkward experience he had in a hair salon to brighten his mood. It seems to do the trick as Remington smiles again.
Andy thinks he's the most precious thing he's ever laid his eyes on.
Remington thinks he's perfect.
Eventually, though, Emerson calls, telling his brother he has to come home because Sebastian wants to work on some songs and they need Remington, so he says goodbye, thanks Andy for the drink, again, and walks home happy.
