No one should blame Dong Xin or think it wrong that she is as protective as a grizzly bear over her best friend.
If anything, they should find it wrong if she didn't have a care in the world for her.
So, if she is looking at Wang He Di like she wants to butcher him, not even her future husband should have anything to do with it or say about it. A wife (a future wife in her case) is not beholden to what her husband feels or believes. She can feel, believe, say, and do things that she wants.
"Babe, should I get jealouse of DiDi?", Zhi Ting piped up beside her, probably noting that she is (yet again) looking at the direction of her best friend and her "suitor".
She transferred the look of irritation she is burning DiDi with to him. "If you want to get jealous over the fact that I want to stab all of his toes, then by all means get jealous."
The man laughed. "Yue is going to get very angry if you do that."
"I don't care because I want to be angry with her too. Are you seeing how close they are to each other?!?! Can they even eat properly????"
Zhi Ting laughed louder. "We're like that too."
Her eyes turned into slits. "Stop defending them."
Zhi Ting, still in a good mood, lifted her hands and kissed her knuckles. "I really like you when you're annoyed. You become more beautiful."
She rolled her eyes at him. "You should stop talking to DiDi. You are starting to sound just like him. That's how he talks to Yue when he's trying to butter her up."
"Ah! That's where we're different. I'm not trying to butter you up. I'm saying the truth."
Xin was brought back to the time when she and Zhi Ting had just started going out. He was THIS playful. "OK MR. GAO. IF YOU SAY SO."
She told him she's going to go to the restroom for a bit and left as soon as his cousins hijacked him to talk about last night's basketball game.
If someone had told her that this particular trip to the bathroom would be as dramatic as it turned out to be, she would have worn higher heels.
"Wang He Di!", Xin heard Jie's voice as soon as she opened the door of the restroom, on her way back.
The restrooms are quite a walk away from where lunch is being held and from the sound of the other woman's voice, Xin is sure that she has to slow down her walk or else she might end up bumping into them.
"Oh hi!", Xin heard DiDi respond.
"I wasn't able to immediately say hi because you seemed to be busy with a phone call", Jie said.
"Oh yeah. I stepped out of the tent for a bit."
"So... how are you?"
Xin's eye roll almost hit the roof at the woman's obvious effort to have a conversation.
"I'm doing great", DiDi answered, "How about you?"
"Happy to be here! But I didn't expect you would be here too."
DiDi must have smiled. His voice sounded lighter. "My girlfriend is the maid-of-honor e. Xin and Zhi Ting got forced into inviting me too."
Jie's laugh tinkled. Xin knows that that "tinkling" laughter means she was laying on the pheromones thick.
"So, it's true that you and Yue are together..."
Her best friend's "supposed" boyfriend must have nodded because Jie continued to speak.
