Six months after...
There can never be a slow day or a slow hour in a hospital.
Life and death can happen in a second or in excruciatingly slow minutes and there will always be someone running around towards a patient who needs help or a patient who doesn't even know anymore what he/she needs.
People rush about, not knowing whether today they will witness a miracle or a tragedy.
The constant presence of contradictions never allows anyone enough time to breathe.
BUT there can be moments of peace and moments of silence... especially for two people who find ways to be together.
"I remember most of it now", she told Wang He Di.
He smiled at her. He was told this morning about her and his happiness was boundless at the news. They've been praying for it for so long now.
"The doctors did say it was a very good possibility you will eventually remember everything."
"I am sorry it took me so long."
He shook his head. "Please... do your best to not worry about that too much. What is important is that you remember everything now."
She bit at her lip and DiDi knows that, sadly, no matter what he tells her, she won't listen.
She always had the tendency to think and think and think.
He looked up the sky, seeing sunset about to come for the two of them soon, signaling that he has to say goodbye to her by then.
He hoped he could have had enough time with her to make her understand that she shouldn't be too hard on herself.
"Everyone has been telling me the same thing but... I have caused so much trouble for everyone. Just thinking about what you all had to go through because of me..."
DiDi expelled a deep breath before responding so he can calmly assure her that the moment she woke up, the one thing in everyone's mind has been to make sure that she recovers – nothing else.
Of course, he will not deny that there were sacrifices made but they would all have done everything for her regardless.
Nothing could have and would have been spared for her, especially when she woke up without any memory of the last five years and one more operation had to be done to re-align nerve endings in her brain that will help her in her recovery.
She was completely battered and near death's door so many times that having her alive is a blessing in and of itself already.
Guiding her back to the life she had and needed was and is an important priority and if they had to do all of that again, they would ALL have.
Especially DiDi.
He loved her and has so much to be thankful for to her.
"We wanted you to heal and recover. We would have done everything."
"But I took away so much of your time these past months because I couldn't remember anything."
He is thankful that he had the freedom to be flexible enough to accommodate every call and every time she needed him to be with her.
And he cannot remember how much gratitude he has extended to his family and friends for their understanding and support in what he needed to do and how he needed to hold on to the hope that she would eventually remember everything.
