Wang He Di will remember it for the rest of his life – the fear and mind-numbing pain he felt when he received that fateful phone call from his sister.
"Dad's on his way to the air strip where our plane waits for him. He will directly head to London so he can make it in time for the contract signing. There is nothing else you have to think about now. Only coming home", Zi Wei told him.
"They're still inside the OR?", he asked again – after having asked it for five times already.
"Yes, Gege, so we have to keep on praying. Doctor Hao Qiang won't fail us. He has never failed us", his sister updated him – understanding his hopelessness, understanding his dread.
"When it's over, promise me you will call me. If I can't answer because I am already on the plane, message me. I will respond as soon as I can."
"I promise. Now, take care of yourself. Li Xi Zi will pick you up so you can immediately get here."
"Zi Wei..." He cannot find it in him to end the call. It is his only line to Yue. It is his only –
"Di-Ge, I will stay on the line while you wait for boarding."
He released a deep breath and forced himself to look up or else he will find tears falling from his eyes.
The weight of the whole world pressed down his chest.
"Where is the truck driver who hit her car?", he finally thought of asking.
"He's in police custody. Atty. Long ZhenKang has headed over there to take care of things. Apparently, Guo Limited owns the truck."
His mind became distracted for a while. "Shipping Line by the Guos?"
"Yes", Zi Wei confirmed, "Atty. Long ZhenKang assured us he will ensure immediate action for this. We have reliable people with us, Di-Ge. You do not need to worry about anything else."
He doesn't know how he could tell Zi Wei that he WANTS to think of other things even for just a minute because if he continues to dwell on Yue, his head will explode.
"Rammed by a truck..."
"Both of her legs are broken..."
"The injury to her head is still undetermined..."
"A punctured lung..."
"Quite a lot of blood loss..."
It felt as though Dubai Airport's ceiling had fallen all over him when he was first informed of the news.
He stood stock still in the middle of people bustling about, rushing on their way to their next flight, and his assistant and their EVP – Chen Kuan Hong – looked at him in worry as color drained out of his face.
They immediately understood the severity of the reason for the phone call and guided him towards one of the lounge chairs so he can sit before his legs give way.
Apparently, it has been two hours after the accident when Zi Wei found out.
She has been trying to call Shen Yue about their lunch for thirty minutes and when someone finally answered, their househelp informed her that the whole family is currently in the hospital after an accident.
His sister was told that Yue had been involved in a car accident where a truck had rammed her car.
Immediately, DiDi's family was on the move.
