Epifanio was devastated. His staff were all concerned about him. He no longer smiled, he was rarely ever seen. He barely came out of his office.
Most nights he would drink to get the pain to go away. Each hour that passed was absolute agony. He just got her back, and now she was gone. Of course, something just had to come up.
Cortez wasn't of any help either. He lounged about pretending as if he cared. He honestly hoped that she was dead. Cortez was known for his "way" with women. Those who were smart stayed away, but for those unlucky souls they ended up disappearing as if they had never existed.
Epifanio now kept his daughter under a tight schedule. She didn't like it, but she knew what he was doing could more than likely save her life. What if she was next? They didn't know this man's intentions.
He desperately sent out searches for her, but she was nowhere to be found in Sinaloa. He could have been miles away by now. Every place people could look was searched. No sign of her. Epifanio still kept up with his work as governor, but the people were worried about him. Those who didn't like him before now held pity for him.
What made matters worse was that the man who took her kept his face away from the cameras. This man clearly knew what he was doing. They'd found an apartment where whoever had been there had the building plans of the courthouse. This man had gone under several names, not one of which they could trace since all of the names used were of the deceased.
However, he had been careless to leave a journal of his behind. There was no name, just pages, and pages of how he loved Camila and that her betrayal would soon be righted. It was strange. He did all this just to have her love him? But how could she? She loved Epifanio with all her right and cherished all of their memories, right?
Epifanio was in despair and Isabella now felt even more guilty. One of the names he used had been a man she talked to about her parent's fight with each other. She didn't know whether to say anything or keep quiet. She knew what she had to do. She went and found her father.
"Papi?" Isabella asked. "Can I talk to you for a second. It's important. It's um... it's about Mami."
"What about her?" he asked concerned.
"I should have mentioned it earlier, but one of the names that guy went under, I talked to him before. He was pretending to be a visiting counselor at the school. A few weeks back."
"Continue."
"Well, I felt like I didn't have anyone to talk to about you and Mami fighting, so after hearing that he was really understanding and the best guy to really talk to, I decided to see him. I didn't think much about it. Everyone in the school went to see the guy," Isabella continued. "I didn't see much of a connection really. Not until now... I'm sorry I didn't say anything earlier. Now it's my fault she's gone."
Isabella said the last of what she had to say through sobs. She nearly would have collapsed on the floor if her father hadn't caught her and sat her down. Isabella started crying and couldn't stop. 'It was my fault,' she thought.
Epifanio hugged her. He got her to calm down and sent her to bed. It was late and they both needed their rest. Epifanio couldn't sleep. All he could think about was Camila. He looked to her side of the bed. Nothing there. Just a cold, empty place. It would be hours before he would finally drift off... into nightmares.
As for Camila, Magdalena was taking her out for another walk. She had her hair up in a bun and was wearing a simple, but eye-catching outfit. Every man out in the square was giving her looks and it made her uncomfortable.
Iago, hiding in the shadows, had enough of the men staring and went to her side as fast as he could. Magdalena wasn't fond of his spying. She knew Renata wasn't Renata and that it was actually Camila Vargas. She was trying to help her remember some of her memories of Mexico.
One in particular, she thought, would be dramatic enough to spark something except, a key player wasn't there. Magdalena could only hope that Isabella would find the clues. She had recently sent a flower from a flower store in Mexico City. Whether or not she'd figure it out was up to Isabella.
The men staring stopped after seeing Iago. One of them, however, was drunk out of his mind and wasn't about to let him go without embarrassing him first.
"Hey there amigo," he yelled. "Where is ya goin' aye?"
"None of your business that's where Mateo," he growled back.
"Aw come on Alejandro, we're just messin' with ya. Sides, who's little miss Chiquita Bonita over there? Got a real hottie. What happen to Renata, break up?"
"This IS Renata dumbass! Now I suggest you leave my wife alone!"
"Common man, you're drunk as hell. Go home," his friends tried to suggest.
Mateo wasn't having it. Drunk or not he didn't like how Iago got all of the hot chicks. First Renata, and now apparently Renata was back. If that made any sense. He couldn't comprehend how to even stand without falling over.
"Why should I?" he said surly as ever. "I had my eyes on the girl first."
"Excuse you alcoholic freak! You respect my... husband? Ugh... I have a headache. Can we go home?" Camila said, about to pass out.
Iago sighed, picked her up, and carried her home. He went to get her medication she was "prescribed." Magdalena followed him, but he didn't get the pills from the drawer. He got different ones.
After he left, she took a closer look at the pills. They only temporarily caused memory loss, so they had to be taken every now and then. He was controlling her mind. Before she could do anything though, Iago was on his way back. She ran as the sound of his voice came nearer. She'd have to find a way to send some to Isabella. Give her a hint.
Unfortunately, things only got more complicated. Magdalena didn't have the time to put them back in their original place. Iago saw they had been moved and took them with him this time. Now she'd have to find them and god only knows how easy that would be. But now there was one question on Camila's mind. Who the hell was Alejandro and why did it sound so familiar?
