"What game?" I asked.
"it's simple really. We each ask you questions and if you answer correctly, you live. If you answer incorrectly, you die. See? Simple!" Oliver chirped. I glared at him.
"All of them are awake now! Fantastic!" Luci said.
"Ok. First one's for you." Matt pointed to Brianna. "If everything is possible, is it possible for something to be impossible?" He asked.
"Noooo?" She tried.
"Well I don't know the answer myself, so consider that your warm up question." Matt replied.
"My turn, my turn!" Luci chanted then pointed to Cynthia. "What if Pinocchio said, 'my nose will grow now.'?"
"The world would implode." She replied.
"I like the way you think. Your safe for now." Luci concluded.
"God, this is so boring!" Allen chimed in. "How about this one. Would you murder to keep your friends alive?" He pointed to me. I thought about it. Then responded.
"Yes."
"Oooh? Very interesting!" Oliver said. "Shall we put that to the test?" He asked the other men.
"Yes!" From Allen.
"Duh." From Matt.
"Go ahead." From the blonde Italian.
"Then it's settled. Who will be the victim?" Oliver asked. I swallowed. I didn't want to actually murder anyone.
"The other Canadian was walking the halls earlier. Probably looking for his dear Gilbert. He's probably still here too." Luci suggested. I felt sick. I couldn't murder anyone!
"Perfect. Now if I may borrow one of these." Oliver said as he picked up one of Luci's knives. Luci gave him a look, but Oliver ignored him. He walked over and handed it to me.
At first, I refused to hold it, letting it drop to the floor. Then Oliver shot me a warning glance.
"You said you would do it. Now entertain us. Or did you answer your question incorrectly?" He taunted. But Damn he was right. If I didn't preform the deed, me and most likely my friends were going to die.
He freed me from my restraints, picked up the knife, and handed it to me. This time I held it, but so tight, my knuckles turned white.
"Loosen up. It's only murder." Matt said, looking at my pale face. I couldn't though, and I mean it's ironic. The daughter of Hades didn't want to have anything to do with death.
I took a deep breath.
"You can go look the halls for him. Remember all doors are locked, though, so no way to escape. If you try, you forfeit and you and all your friends die." Allen instructed.
I nodded as I left the gym quietly. I noticed an instant change in temperature first. It was much warmer in the halls than in the gym.
I started wandering the halls quiet as a mouse. There had to be a way to avoid murder, right? Some way to fake it or SOME way to escape.
Then I heard it. A distant shouting.
"Gilbert! GILBERT!" Matthew was yelling. I hid my knife behind my back.
He turned a corner and there he stood in front of me. He jumped back a little from surprise.
"Marki. Dear God, why are you here? It's so late. Never mind, could you help me look for Gil? It seems we got separated when the crowd started panicking." He said.
"Umm, sure." I replied, putting on the best smile I could in a situation like this.
"Thanks. It really means a lot." He smiled, looking very grateful. I couldn't help but already feel guilty even though the crime wasn't even committed yet.
He turned around and walked down the hallway. We walked through a couple hallways because I couldn't find it in my heart to make a move. In one of the halls though, he stoped at a particular room.
"None of these darn doors will open!" He complained, struggling with the knob.
This was my chance. He had his back turned to me. It was now or never. I started silently sobbing. I would never be able to forgive myself.
"I'm. so. sorry." I choked out.
"What..." His last word. I pierced his back with the knife. Dark red blood fleed from the wound quickly. He was able to look at me one last time before his spirit left.
What I saw... Pain... Betrayal... Shock... Disbelief. Then nothing. His body lay limp on the hallway floor. So lifeless, it felt so wrong.
I was wailing now, not caring if ANYONE heard. I pulled the knife out as proof it was done. Then I walked back to the gym. All was silent. Not a word was to be spoken.
"It's. Done." I stated. I dropped the blood covered knife at Oliver's feet, then walked back to my corner, never looking at him.
I curled up into a ball and just wept. I couldn't bare to look at my friends.
How could I?
