Jian frowns as he looks at his little sister. She can't walk properly yet, and so if he wants to go somewhere with her, he has to carry her. She's kind of heavy and he is afraid he will drop her, so he doesn't do it much. She's not really talking full sentences either, so he doesn't really understand her. This sucks! He has been waiting for months for her to grow up, but she seems to be taking forever. When Mommy and Daddy told him that he would be getting a little sister, and that it meant someone to play with, he was really excited, but so far, Wang Juan, that's her name, mostly cries, eats, poops, and sleeps.

It's the weekend so there's no school today, not that it makes a difference. He has been going there for a week now, and he hasn't made any friends yet. This makes him sad, he wishes his cousins were the same age as him, but Jingfei is 11, way too old, while Aunt Jia's kids, the twin boys, Ling and Ming,  are younger than him, and still have another year, before they can join him at school. Aunt Yang Zi's daughter Chun, is too far away to count.

He sighs dramatically as he looks at his bowl of noodles, on the kitchen table.

"What's the matter Bunny?" asks Yue, glancing at the mini replica of He Di, while feeding Juan, pureed apples.

"I don't like school! How much longer do I have to go there?"

"You've got about another 12 years to go Tiger... not counting university." Replies He Di, kissing all their cheeks, before sitting down to join them.

Jian looks up at his parents in despair, overwhelmed by the amount of years ahead of him.

"But what if I never make any friends at all? Can't I just stay here with you instead?"

"Bunny, you know Mommy has to work and so does Daddy." Answers Yue.

"But why can't I come to the day care at your work anymore? Juan gets to go with you... why does she get to be with you Mommy, and I have to go to horrible school? It's not fair!" He yells, throwing his chopsticks onto the table.

"Watch it Jian! What did I say about screaming?" He Di scolds, in a firm voice.

"We don't shout at Mommy or Daddy." Replies Jian, in a contrite manner.

"Good boy." Says He Di in a softer tone, patting the top of his son's head affectionately.

"Bunny, it's still early days, I promise you that you will make friends." Says Yue, her heart bleeding for her son's loneliness.

He bows his head down, his sad little eyes threatening to spill tears. Yue hands Juan over to He Di.

"Baby please feed her." She says.

She gets up from her seat and walks over to where Jian is sitting. She crouches down and pulls him into a hug.
