I smiled as I looked at the kitchen window into the garden, chuckling to myself at my family playing, with Aston chasing the kids, laughing with them. I placed the homemade biscuits and homemade lemonade I'd prepared on a tray, and carried them outside, laying them on the table outside.
'Drinks and biscuits!' I called, immediately being surrounded by children eager to get their biscuits and lemonade. Aston put his hand on his lower back as he toddled over to me.
'Is your back sore again?' I asked him.
'Yeah, I'll be alright though' he smiled.
'Aw' I cooed, kissing his cheek.
'Grandma, these biscuits are amazing!' my eldest granddaughter exclaimed.
'Glad you like them sweetie' I smiled at her.
Our 5 grandchildren carried on playing as we sat down with their parents. We'd had another child after Jacob, our daughter Jessica. She'd had two boys with her husband Mark, and Jacob had two twins, a girl and a boy, and him and his wife were expecting another girl next month.
'Thanks for dinner mum' Jacob smiled, kissing my cheek.
'No problem' I smiled back as I leaned back in my chair. It was a hot summers day, so we'd invited the family round for sandwiches and a family catch up.
This is exactly how I'd wanted to end my life; happily married, with children and grandchildren. Aston had given me all of those.. That man created my happy ending. That man WAS my happy ending. Through all the ups and downs, he stood by me. It 60 years after we met, and we were just as much in love as we were all those years ago.
