Sophie was the kind of girl who wrote love letters.

She never sent them, of course. That was something that even as courageous as she was, could never do. She kept them safely tucked away in her notebook, daydreaming about her current crush and thinking up the next letter she would write to them. She was a writer, a dreamer, a hopeless romantic filled with unrequited love to boys upon boys upon boys.

Until one day, she was accidentally knocked over by a group of jocks running past her. She dropped her notebook to the ground as she tripped, watching as the red and pink hearts flew out into the air, whipped away by the wind.

She managed to grab one, and only one-the special teal heart, written to her crush of two years ago, Fitzroy Avery Vacker.

Who, coincidentally, was one of the boys who had knocked her over, who was running back towards her with two hearts in hand.

"Hey, me and the boys are sorry." He said with a hesitant smile, handing her the two hearts which were very labelled in bold Wylie Endal and Keefe Sencen-her two most recent crushes, meaning they had more than just one letter written about them-maybe even more. She saw him try extremely hard not to look at them, but she knew he had seen the names written on the cards. They were impossible not to notice.

"Don't judge me, ok?" She blurted out randomly, and a crimson flush spread over her cheeks.

He smirked, and proceeded to hand her one more card labelled Wylie Endal. "Never. Now, as I know exactly what these are and the only one who does, and involved in the process of knocking you over and causing this mess, I am now obliged to help you." He declared, holding out a hand to help her up. "Now, who should I make sure doesn't get their hands on one of those letters ever?"

She smiled gratefully, accepting his hand. "Anyone who's on the cards. Which means....." She faded off, counting off on her fingers. "Wylie Endal, Keefe Sencen, Tam Song, Dex Dizznee, Jensi Babblos, and-yeah, thats it." She said, quickly covering up her mistake-she wasn't going to tell him he had been victim of her love letter writing. She'd just have to make sure he didn't find any of the teal hearts-which should be easy enough.

"Jensi Babblos?" He laughed, having memorized all the boys names.

"That was in 4th grade, ok?" She protested, blushing. "Anyway, I thought you weren't going to judge me."

He grinned. "Oops. Sorry."

She noticed he didn't look very sorry.

They split ways, and she saw him run over to his buddy Keefe Sencen, who's ego was already big enough-he didn't need to know he was her current crush-nor did Wylie Endal. And she definitely didn't need Dex, Tam, or Jensi believing she still had a crush on them. She noticed him slyly pick up a heart that was right in front of Keefe's feet, and she gasped in relief.

Maybe having a helper, even if he was one of her former crushes, wasn't so bad after all.

A week later, they had collected most of the hearts, with no casualties. She hoped it stayed that way. She lay awake at night, wondering what would happen if one of the letters reached the boy they were meant to reach. She had so far made sure none of the teal hearts reached Fitz. Which was good, because she definitely didn't know what to do if he did-he definitely didn't like her that way.

They met up later in the park, him holding five more hearts. "I had to practically snatch this one out of Endal's hands." He commented, handing her a pale pink heart with Wylie's name on it. "Seriously, there are so many with Endal's name on it-you must really like him, huh?" He smirked, waving another light pink heart in front of her face.

"What's it to you, you jealous?" She joked, carefully not mentioning the only person who had more hearts than Wylie was, well, him. She had gotten way more comfortable with him over the weeks they had spent searching for the flyaway hearts.

He laughed at her comment, then casually mentioned. "Is that all?"

She looked up at him suspiciously. "I think thats it-why?"

He simply stared at her, grinning. "Why don't you count and check?"

She warily counted her hearts. 25 for Wylie. 15 for Keefe. 11 for Dex. 9 for Tam. 5 for Jensi. 29 for Fitz-wait. 29.

She looked up at him, realization dawning on her face with a pang. No. He couldn't. He didn't have-

He pulled out the last teal heart from behind his back, grinning. "Didn't know you felt that way about me, Soph."

He grabbed her hand and pulled her close. She smiled. "Didn't know you felt that way about me, Fitz."

And with that, he kissed her, and her heart flew away, giving it all to Fitz.
