It was the end of the day and I was heading to my locker, about to meet up with Nicole.
"Yo, Evelyn!" I get stopped mid walk by a strong grip on my shoulder. I get turned around and before I know it, I'm facing Cole. I feel so short compared to him, he's a giant.
"It's eve-ette" I say correcting him.
"Yeah, what ever. Are you doing anything this weekend?" He says letting go of my shoulder.
"Why?" I say raising an eyebrow, looking up at him suspiciously up and down.
"Are you?" He says impatiently.
"No, I'm not doing anything. Wh-".
"Good your coming to Sean's party with me. Everyone is going, so you can invite your friends if you want" he says brushing his dirty blonde hair with his hands.
Everybody in this school, including people like me who haven't gone to these parties, know that Sean - Cole's best friend- throws the most insane parties. Although I haven't gone to any myself, Nicole's rants the very next day have gotten me to use my imagination.
Everyone will be there, I didn't know that this relationship was public, i thought it was just between us and Oliver. And how can I go to a party, filled with crowds of people, sweaty kids and empty alcohol drinks everywhere. If I didn't even have the guts to have gone to my grandma's book club.
He can go himself!
"I don't want to go."
He stares into my eyes intensely. "Why?" His facial expression changed, almost like he showed concern.
"There's no point in telling you, you're only going to laugh." I grip onto my books tighter.
He exhales rolling his eyes. "Jeez just tell me, I won't laugh."
Strangely, I believed him. Why? I don't know why. Maybe it was his eyes and the way his eyebrows furrowed like he was preparing himself for what I was going to say next.
"Crowded places scare me, I've never really liked to be in a tight place with a bunch of people." I stare at him to see if he would think that excuse was stupid.
"That wasn't funny, see I didn't laugh." He points at his mouth. "And don't worry, Sean's house is huge, and at any point you feel uncomfortable, tell me and I'll take you home."
I never realized until now how kind Cole is. I always thought he was a douche because he dated most of the girls in this school and broke their hearts. I guess he isn't that bad after all.
"By the way, why are you inviting me to Sean's party anyway?" I question.
He smirks chuckling. "And here I thought you were a smart girl."
I slap him lightly on the arm with my text book glaring at him.
He flinched away surprised. "Jeez lady, do you want to kill me?"
"It's just a book, relax you big baby" I crack a smile as aim to him him again.
But this time he is able to grab the book, I have a strong grip so I hold on to it. He lifts his hand up trying to loosen my grip. He snickers and blows on my face. I then realize that our faces were now inches apart. I gasp and let go of the book stepping back.
"I didn't think you would give up that easily." He pauses and smiles smugly at me. "You're blushing, don't go falling in love with me now." He laughs as he helps me up to my feet.
I scoff and clear my throat. "You wish lover boy."
"Well anyways, about that party, the reason why I need you there is because Ashley will be there."
Oh. Well now that makes sense. His ex is going.
"Yeah but the whole school will be there. People are going to think we're actually dating" I say. I mean how would people react? He's popular and I'm not, they're not my crowd. I don't get noticed by anyone, not even the guy I like. So why would I go to a party full of strangers?
He chuckles a bit. "That's the whole point dummy, we need Ashley to see that."
Maybe just this once. I mean, I did make a deal with him. He helps me, I help him. I can tell Nicole about the party, I'm sure she'll be excited that I decided to go, except the fact that she still doesn't know who I'm 'dating' yet.
"Yeah okay. But only this time!" I warn lifting my finger up to his face.
"Alright." he says bringing my hand down and out of his face. "Oh! And make sure you wear something..nice. Not this" he scrunches up his nose emphasizing my clothes.
I look down at myself, I'm wearing gray sweats and a pink baggy shirt filled with stains of paint. Damn it! I wore one of my dad's shirts. I did look like a mess. But on my defense, it's because I woke up extremely late this morning.
"W-what's wrong with my clothes?" I say, knowing very well what was wrong, but I just wanted to know what he would say.
He brushes his hands through his hair, chuckling a bit. " Are you serious?" He says raising an eyebrow at me.
I cross my hands over my chest, awaiting his reply.
"You look like you need psychological help. Your hairs a mess and your glasses look dirty. Did you just wake up?"
My jaw goes slack. "Asshole" I sneer slapping him harder this time on the arm with my text book.
He laughs. "I'm joking! Relax."
I bite my lip containing the foul words that want to spill out my mouth.
"Anyways let's just say you want to dress to impress. Here put your number in, ill pick you up tomorrow at around 6." he says taking his phone out of his back pocket, and handing it to me.
I put my number and hand it back to him.
"Alright, I'll see you Jessica!" he yells running off down the hall.
"Wha-?! That's not even close to my name. It's Yvette!!" I yell back. I shake my head at his stupidity.
I hope Nicole isn't gonna freak out when I tell her who I'm dating, and who's party we're going to. I also need to talk to Oliver.I'm going home for now.
