2 weeks have passed now. Every night I climb to the rooftop and wait, but I'm always left disappointed. The best way to not have your feelings hurt is to pretend you don't have any. I can't help but feel guilty for what I've left behind. I thought he, I thought they, would understand. Waiting for someone to love you is not romantic, it's self destructive, it's never going to turn out like how you hoped it would.
I sat on the windowsill while everyone went down to have breakfast. My leg swung outside do the window as I gazed at the Isle. I don't know what I was looking for, a sign maybe, anything. A knock on the door, but my attention never left the west of the Isle. "Kitty, dear." Fairy Godmother said letting herself in. "Mhm." I said not giving her a glance.
"You haven't come down for meals in a few days, and I know you haven't been going to some classes." She said walking slowly to the window sill."You sending me back?" I questioned uninterested looking back at her. "No dear of course not. Just in case you wanted to talk.."
"I just get sad sometimes. I shut the world out, and when I feel better I'll let it back in. Please, don't try to fix me.
"Me shutting down is much better than me
blowing up, I promise you." I said to her.She reached towards me and I flinched. But she only tucked a curl behind my ear. "I'm
not going to hurt you dear."
"They all say that."Fairy Godmother sighed in sadness and and nodded as she got up to leave. At the door she turned back to me as if she were going to say something. But she didn't. And the door shut behind her.
Please. Please give me away the end. Please tell me it's us.Nightfall. The sun has set and now Auradon is dark too. The closest thing to feel like home was nighttime. The room was empty. Evie and Mal know how I can get and they know not to intervene. And then the feelings started to come in. They always come hard at night.
"Ugh!" I grunted as I pushed the side table over. The lamp glass shattered. I clawed at my bed until feathers and fluff exploded out. I ripped the pillows to shreds and broke the bed spring. I ripped the drawers out of the dresser and pushed it over cracking the wood. I punched at the walls until my knuckles bled.
I gripped my head trying to stop thinking. "Stop! Stop! Oh God please stop!" I said banging my hand against my head. "Don't cry. Don't cry. Don't fucking cry." I repeated to myself.
I stumbled into the bathroom and I looked at myself. Tired. Exhausted. I couldn't look anymore. I hit the mirror three times until shards spilled onto the counter.
The moon. I thought. She'll know.I climbed out the window and up to the rooftop. I gasped for air and the coolness felt sharp in my throat. I looked up and around frantically for the moon, she wasn't here tonight. The sky was black. "God damnit!" I cursed to myself as I gripped the edge. The stars are broken and they don't shine anymore. The moon no longer follows me. The Earth refuses to spin. You won't speak to me and neither will this damn universe.
I have to go back. I have to leave this false paradise because nothing is beautiful about heartbreak.
I wiped tears from my face and began to think of how I'd get back to the Isle.I slid down the drain pipe onto the perfectly mowed grass. I snuck around the grounds. I stopped in my tracks when I heard leaves crunching coming toward my direction. I climbed up the nearest tree and hid behind the branches. Mal and Evie met up with Jay, Carlos, and Ben in the courtyard.
"She's not on the roof." Mal said breathing heavily.
"Where could she be? What's been going on?" Carlos asked panicking.
"It's Harry!" Evie blurted our in desperation. And she sighed heavily.Silence.
"Harry Hook?" Jay asked. "I thought that ship sailed long ago." He said crossing his arms over his chest.
"It's complicated." Evie said putting her hands on her hips. "He told her, before we left that he'd still shine the light... I don't think it's happened yet."
"Do you think she could have gone back to the Isle?" Carlos asked.
"There's no way." Ben said shaking his head. "The only buttons that can open the barrier are in my office and the garage where the limos are."Thank you Ben. Long live the King.
"Let's check the forest. It's quite there." Jay said. And they departed. I waited until the sounds of their footsteps were out of range. I jumped down from the tree and creeped back around to the center of Auradon prep.
Guards. Of course. I slumped against the side of the building. How can I climb without getting their attention? I slowly went to the back and climbed a tree to get a closer look of where Bens office was. I leaned out on the limb and scanned the windows.
Bingo.
My eyes landed on an oval office in the middle of the building. I jumped off the branch and my claws scrapped the brick of the building until I stopped sliding. I grunted and pulled myself up. I climbed and moved sideways to get to the window of Bens office. I took a bobby pin out of my hair, hanging from the back of building and picked the lock. I slithered into the office and crept around.Going through drawers and moving papers and documents. Ah Ha! A yellow button labeled 'Do Not Touch' property of the King. I grabbed the button and snuck back out of Bens office, clawing my way down. Sneaking past the guards and to the end of Auradon.
Time to go back home.
I clicked the button and the golden bridge began to form. I took my first step on the bridge and looked back to the life I could've had, but I kept moving forward. I started running, following the growth of the bridge. Once back on the Isle I clicked the button to close the barrier again and placed the button in my boot.
It was late. They didn't do much business at night. I may have to wait. But I'm impatient and these two weeks have been torturous. I walked through the alleys and I seconded looking at everyone who would walk past me.
"Kitty?"
"Gil!"
"What are you doing here?" He asked confused.
"Where's Harry?" I asked.
"I'm gonna ask you once more Gil, where is Harry?"
"I don't know!" He said. "We finished our runs and went our separate ways. Come by the chip shoppe tomorrow. He should be there."I calmness my breathing down and let the nerves of everything just run its course.
"It's good to see you." He said with a side smile.
"Yeah Gil. It's good to see you too."
