Today I get to meet Toni's family and I'm not too happy about it, after Ma told me that they really don't even like her makes me feel a certain way. But I'm going to go I have to give them a chance hopefully they don't fuck it up.
"Justice." Toni said knocking on my door. I walked over to the door and opened it. "Yes." Her eyes widened and a smile came across her face. "Your hair it's so" Mom caught her off with a scream.
"Big! Oh my god it's cute! You definitely got your hair from me and my family." I laughed at her and Toni rolled her eyes. "We'll be leaving in twenty minutes so be ready, yeah?"
"Okay." I said and shut the door. Unfortunately my door was right next to their room so I could here everything. Toni walked in the room and started complaining about Ma's hair comment.
"Janet you always gotta make it about you! Everything isn't about damn you. No no and don't give me that face please don't because every time you do something and I call you out you wanna cry." Mom didn't say anything but Toni kept yelling.
"I don't wanna see a damn tear fall from your face wipe your eyes right damn now." I was glad to hear Ma use her voice but they way she used it was pissing me off. "Toni it was a joke why are you yelling at me over a joke I was just playing."
"That's the problem you play too much, I'm tired of defending myself and my family every time you wanna joke."
"Now you know how I feel every time I am with your family you only get to do it once or twice I do it every damn time we are around your family." Toni and ma were both quiet for a second before ma spoke again.
"We're taking separate cars tonight."
"Why are we taking separate cars?"
"Because you just cussed me out, made me cry, and made me feel bad about being myself I'm tired of being around you for the day and I damn sure won't be able to take your family."
"Whatever let's just go but Justice is riding with me." Ma scoffed. "Why can't she pick who she wants to ride with? She's seventeen and she graduated high school she's damn near an adult. You know what forget it you got that." Ma walked out of the room before Toni could say anything back and she knocked on my door.
"Justice honey I'll meet you guys at the restaurant I have to go and get gas." She said wiping her tears. "No let me go with you I'll drive you need to relax it can't be good for the baby."
"Toni I'm going with Janet we'll meet you at the restaurant." I didn't wait for her to respond I got my things and ran to Mom so I could help her to car. When we got in I put the address in and began driving. I looked down at the meter for gas and she had a full tank.
"I know, full tank." She was still crying and it was making me mad because she is completely different from the lady she seems to be happy, and always laughing.
"I just had to get outta there and get myself together before I sat down with her family for hours." I gave a confused look. "I thought you were only staying ten minutes."
"Today I was going to stay the whole time for you but how I'm feeling right now I don't think I can stay the whole time." I gave her my purse. "It's tissue in there."
"For you to know me for barely a month you sure are taking care of me like you've known we all your life." I chuckled. "I mean your my mother I feel like I have to. I just hope to get there with Toni, but we'll see." I pulled into the parking lot and noticed Toni was there already so I parked next to her.
She got out and knocked on the window. "Y'all ready?" I looked over at mom and she nodded her head yes and we got out. "Hey we're here with the Braxtons."
"Yeah right this way." When we reached to table it was only three seats left so I could tell we were late. "Toni!!" Some loud girl yelled.
"Hey, everyone!" Toni said and went around to hug everyone while me and ma stood there like idiots. "Hey guys." Janet said and took a seat and I followed her.
"No no Justice come here let me introduce you to your family." I sat my purse in the chair and walked over to her and she grabbed my hand.
"Okay so here's my sister Traci she's the second oldest and the craziest." Traci stood to greet and hug me. "Hey Justice." I moved and gave her my hand to shake because I'm not much of a hugger. "Hey I don't hug sorry."
"It's okay." Toni looked at me and then back at Traci but brushed it off. "This is Towanda she is my personal assistant/ sister but she's on break right now." She didn't stand to greet me she just nodded her head.
"Well anyway this is Trina." Trina got up and spoke to me like she actually knew me. "Hey! How you been?" She didn't try to hug or shake my hand she just rubbed my shoulder. "Hey I've been good, it's really nice meeting you."
"And finally its Tamar the baby." Tamar I could tell is a big personality I don't think I'm going to like her. "Hey babes! I'm auntie Tay Tay." I shook her hand and tried to take my seat but she was still introducing me.
"Wait one more person because daddy and Mikey couldn't make it, but this is mommy my mother." This was the lady that mom was talking about. "Oh praise the lord, thank you jesus! Come give grandma a hug!" Ew hell no.
"I'm sorry but I really don't hug and I've been sick for a couple days I don't want you to you know get sick so I'll just go sit down." I sat next to Ma as Toni slowly walked over to her seat. We were all having a decent conversation but I realized that they weren't talking to Janet at all.
I could tell that it was bothering her because I could hear her shaky breaths, "Toni you got her room together right?"
"Actually she and Janet did it not me I've been a bit busy." When she mentioned Janet I could feel the energy in the room change. "Yeah I love it, I barley leave the room." I said laughing and when I looked over I could see Janet tearing up.
"Uh excuse me." She said and got up and walked out of the room. "Wait Ma!" I grabbed my stuff and ran after her. When I caught up to her she was crying her eyes out. "Ma come here."
"No... no I'm sick of this shit! I'm always defending myself when it comes to them and she never wants to confront them about it she's scared for reasons I don't understand."
"Look calm down this can't be good all this crying and stress. How about you just wait for me in the car. I have my purse here, I'll run and get your stuff." She nodded her head and got in the car.
"What's up with Justice I thought she would at least be happy to meet your family like your Living Legend Toni Braxton."
"And why does she call Janet Ma and you Toni?"
"I-I that was my first time hearing her say that so I'm stuck." Toni said to the others who were talking. "You carried her not Janet."
"Well it look like Janet is carrying something all that weight she gained from the last time we saw her two months ago." Toni must not have told them Janet's pregnant but she needs to say something because she is just letting them dog ma out.
"Wow, y'all ain't shit! Y'all really sitting here dogging her out talking about her weight and had the nerve to ignore her and on top of that y'all talking about me?! I can see why she stays away from y'all and Toni you really sit here and let them talk about your WIFE not a random bitch off the street time and time again! I can only imagine when Janet doesn't come. And for the record I call Janet M because she's shown me nothing but unconditional love all you've done is try to throw money at me."
I walked over to moms seat and got her things, "make sure y'all ain't steal nothing." Everything was there and I turned to Toni. "We'll be home sometime tonight." I looked from Toni to everyone else and scoffed.
