Chapter 12

[In Adam's POV]

"Are you sure that you're okay?" I asked Tommy after his dad's funeral. He nodded. We slowly walked back to Tommy's car. He laced his fingers through mine. Ever since he passed, Tommy's been kinda, dead. Everyone has. I don't blame them, though. I've been doing my best to cheer everyone up.

When we got back to his car, Tommy laid his head down on the steering wheel. "I'm sorry." He said quietly.

"Why?"

"Because I've been so wrapped up in my own misery. I haven't been a lot of help."

"Tommy, you have nothing to be sorry about." I held his hand.

"But I should have been there for Mom, and for you. I keep forgetting, you're working on your new album; you should be working on that. I just - " I leaned forward and kissed him. We haven't kissed since his dad's death. Tommy has been so shut out lately. As I pulled away, I pulled something out of my pocket.

"I don't know if this is the right time." My heart started pounding. "This is completely unplanned." I pulled the little box so Tommy could see it. His eye's grew wide. "I've been thinking a lot about what your dad said. And he's right; I can't live without you. Life is too short to let what we have slip by. I love you so much to let you go." I opened the box to reveal a small, gold ring. For half a second, I thought that Tommy was going to faint. I watched tears form in his eyes. "Thomas Joseph Ratliff, will you agree with me that we have something special and that we're soul mates, and marry me?"

Tommy was very quiet. I could barely hear the people leaving the cemetery. Then, he started to nod his head. "Yes." He threw his arms around my neck. "Yes! Nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you!" His muffled voice came from my shoulder.

My heart took flight. I pulled him close and we kissed and kissed and kissed. All I could think was that all my dreams are coming true! I love this man more than anything and now I get to spend the rest of my life with him. I don't care if we've only been together a year. This man is my soul mate. I get to spend the rest of my life with him. Forever.
