Lucas' POV:
I try to lift my small body off the forest floor. Grass swallows my hands until all that fills my vision is the dark green. My arms shake like twigs with too much pressure on them, as I use them to help myself sit up. I lean against a tree and breathe out a sigh.
I wrap my thin arms around my lower torso area and groan in pain. There's a horrible gnawing pain in my stomach as it rumbles and growls.
Tears roll down my face as I curl into a ball trying to keep myself warm and maybe alleviate the pain. My soft sobs are the only sounds in this dark forest.
"I want mommy," I sniffle.
The leaves behind me start rustling. My brain acknowledges the sounds, but I continue to lay in my spot. My body is too heavy to move.
The things around me slowly start to change. The moon starts to lose its brightness, the trees that are already dark, from the night, grow darker, and the grass that had once swallowed my hands change into a soothing black.
I've felt this before. Soon enough, I won't have to feel anything.
A cold smoothness wraps around my ankle. My body slowly lifts off of the floor. This isn't helping my pain. I whimper and try to grab at the ground, where I feel safer.
"This is bad. I don't want to go back to that bad place."
"N-No-mmm." I can't stop the urge of ending my struggles to relax in the warmth that now carries me. When I look up my green eyes meet a pair of golden ones.
"Are you here to take me back?" I ask, curious about me getting caught and sent back so quickly. I did run pretty far but those people have way longer legs than me and can cover distance easily. It was hard to lose them. "Don't take me back. I don't want to go back." My eyelids start getting heavy. It feels like someone tied weights to them. I nuzzle my face into the person who holds me. Not out of trust, but because they're so warm. "Don't take me back."
Niko's POV:
My tongue flicks out of my mouth gathering more scent of my unsuspecting prey. I usually don't hunt reckless prey like this, I like a challenge, but I'm too hungry to care.
Humans are my favorite prey. I like to watch them struggle and hear them beg. The fear on their face is a priceless vision that I can never see too many times.
As I slither around the large tree, I see a human curled into a small ball. I stare at it curiously and wrap my tail around one of its bony tails. Once it's in the air it makes pathetic attempts to get back on the ground.
It is a small human, no doubt a cub. It has small ears, small eyes, small lips, and a little button nose. Its golden hair does a small graceful dance as a gust of wind blows past. Getting tired of its struggling, I bring it up in my arms. The struggling stops immediately and it...snuggles into me?
Its exhausted green eyes hold a world of sadness as they lock onto mine. A blanket of skin sweeps over the world leaving it in complete darkness.
It starts muttering incoherent words and nuzzles its cold face into my chest. Its breathing evens out, informing me of its unconsciousness.
"Did a human just fall asleep in my arms? What a strange creature you are."
I stare at the human curiously. All humans that had ever seen me either ran away or sat frozen with fear. Except for the ones that have been tied down. They usually don't care about anything anymore.
This one is different. That is obvious. It looked at me with so much sorrow in those big emerald eyes.
I strangely don't have the familiar urge to rip this human's guts out. Letting it escape is no option though. I am sure it would not have any problems with telling the other humans about me and my kind.
I brush the golden sea of hair out of the small human's face and smile. I have an idea for this otherwise insignificant creature.
For now, I should get out of the cold. I do not like it, and I am sure it is not great for the human.

When I enter my cave I'm greeted by my unusually energetic son, Felix.
"Hi, father! How was your hunt? I was starting to get worried about you. You were gone forever. What took you so lo-" Felix stops his excessive talking and stares wide-eyed at the little unconscious creature in my arms. "Woah. What is this? It is so small."
"It is a human. Now calm your questions, Felix. You are giving me a headache."
"Sorry, father. It is just that," Felix stops to examine the human. He stares with scrutinizing eyes. "I have never seen a human. Which I am sure you know. All of the stories about them made me think they would be a bit bigger than this and scarier looking. I was told to avoid them by nagas and lamias in the village, but where are its big claws and dangerous teeth? I see no reason to fear this thing. Is this what you got for dinner?"
"Humans like to make their own weapons which can be very dangerous to us. And no one will be eating this human."
"Then why did you bring it?"
"That is a good question. It is our new pet," I say, watching his reaction to the unanticipated news.
Felix's eyes light up in an amount of excitement that I have never seen from him before. He immediately slithers over to me. The human is taken from my arms and ends up in his.
"Wow. My first pet is a human," Felix says, staring at it like it is more than just a scrawny human.
The cave itself seems to radiate a strong excitement, as Felix gets more and more excited about his new human.
"Are you ready for the responsibilities that come with owning a pet?" I question my son.
He eagerly nods his head. "Yes, father! I will try my best to take very good care of our new human!" As I looked into his eyes I could tell that was a promise he was going to try his best to keep.
"Good boy," I say, ruffling his neat brown hair and slithering past him.
"Wait, father! I have questions about the human," my son says, following me. His pace is quicker than usual to keep up with my naturally fast one.
"I will answer your questions soon. For now, I need to rest and you should too."
Felix's POV:
I watch my father leave the room as he goes to rest. I stare at the room entrance where he disappears then look down at the human in my arms.
It is so fragile and light. I do not want to be too rough with it in fear of breaking it.
"I'm going to take such good care of you! You will love it here."
I rush to my room and gently lay it down onto my bed made of different animals fur.
"This is my room. I guess I can call it our room now. You can sleep on my bed with me or I could make you your own. Whatever makes you happy."
The human stirs in its sleep but does not wake up. I get onto the bed and lay it on my coils. The small human's arms reach out, seemingly searching for something. They manage to find my arm, and the human presses into it. It does this all without waking up.
"Aww. You are so adorable," I say, tapping its little nose. "And strange. You are very strange."
When I pull it closer it nuzzles into my warm chest which feels a bit weird. Its cold face is making me uncomfortable, but I let it stay.
"Sleep well," I whisper and pet its head.
