You and the Doctor stood wide-eyed in shock. You both were standing in a battlefield that chose to stop fighting and rejoice for Christmas. That, however, was not the shocking part. The bit that shocked the both of you was seeing Clara Oswald, the one secret you had to keep from the Doctor no matter how many times the old man asked.
"Merry Christmas, Doctor. Merry Christmas, (y/n)." She smiled at you both, reaching forward with one of her hands. You took it immediately, tears coming to your eyes. You knew that she went back to 'face the raven.' Of course you did, you still saw her after she left in her diner TARDIS. You just saw her without the Doctor knowing.
When she told you she was going to face the raven, you begged her not to. You already lost her once, you couldn't lose her again. But in some way, you understood. You weren't very happy about it, but you at least understood. So for her last night 'alive,' the two of you decided to take a small trip to Earth and do as normal humans do. You ate chips and walked around while talking. You went to the cinema together and even decided to go to a bar and try to get Clara drunk. That, sadly, didn't happen.
And now here she is, standing in front of you. Dead. But still alive. A Christmas miracle, you suppose.
"Clara." The Doctor looked at her in disbelief. You looked over at him, wondering how in the world he remembers her.
"Hello, you stupid old man."
"You're back. You're in my head. All my memories are back." He smiled, walking up to you and Clara. You take a look at her clothes and hitch a breath. Why did she still have to be wearing those? You can't even look at a grey shirt without thinking of that day.
She placed her other hand that wasn't holding yours on his cheek. "And don't go forgetting me again, because, quite frankly, that was offensive."
You laugh softly until she suddenly disappears. Tears come to your eyes again. Is that the last time you'll ever see your best friend? Will you really never see her again?
"Memories are important, right?" Bill smiles at us. Suddenly, Nardole appears as well.
"I know what you're thinking. Where is he? Hello, sir, madam."
"When you're already dying, you're entitled to think that your day couldn't get any worse, and here you are." The Doctor sighs, with a small smile on his face. "Both of you are here. How does that work?"
"We can be everyone. We are everyone."
At that moment, you remember once again that it's not Bill and it's not Nardole. They're like Clara's echoes. The real Bill and Nardole are gone...
"Yeah, it's good this, innit? Now I'm all made of glass, not just my nipples." Nardole says, making you chuckle a bit. "Yeah, they got my hair a bit wrong though, didn't they?"
"Shut up, you dumbass." You laugh. "You don't have any hair."
The four of you chat for a bit. It's very emotional, but what should you expect? You're talking to your dead friends and your boyfriend is ready to die. Not exactly an ideal situation now, is it?
When the pair of glass people things disappear, you and the Doctor walk into the TARDIS. It feels lonely almost, and you can't help how you feel. You wish the Doctor would just listen.
You sit in the console room of the TARDIS with tears in your eyes. The Doctor isn't willing to regenerate. Although you can understand why, you just don't want to lose him. He's all you have and all you ever will have. You silently hope that seeing the first version of him knocked some sense into him, but you weren't sure. This is the Doctor we're talking about.
The Doctor is standing at the controls on the console, his hair seeming more windblown than usual and he looks incredibly worn out. His clothes are all battered and filled with holes and soot.
The TARDIS beeps and flashes. You aren't an expert in TARDIS language, but you believe she's trying to tell him to regenerate.
"Yes, yes, I know. They'll all get it wrong without me." The Doctor sighs. You walk over to him and grab his hand, making him look up at you with his big sad eyes. "I can't keep fighting this battle, (y/n)."
"I'll fight for you. You aren't alone, my Doctor. You don't have to keep fighting. If you want, we can live in the suburbs of some little town on Earth and just be human. You'll never fit in but we can try, can't we? You can stay with me, right?" You asked, looking down sadly.
"I can't do that, my love. But..." He breathes in deeply and you look up at him. He gives you a slight smile and brings your hand to his lips. "I suppose one more can't kill anyone. Well... except me."
You watch as his hand begins to glow and he lets go of your hand immediately. He manages to give you one weak smile before starting a very heartfelt monologue. "You wait a moment, Doctor. Let's get it right."
He begins walking around the TARDIS as he speaks, leaving you to just watch this brilliant old man dance around his TARDIS.
"I've got a few things to say to you! Basic stuff first. Never be cruel, never be cowardly." You realize he is starting with the pledge he took when he chose the name 'the Doctor.' "And never, ever eat pears!" He gives you a loving smile from up on the upper deck near the bookcases. "Remember: hate is always foolish, and love," his face softens as he looks at you, "is always wise. Always try to be nice," he begins descending the staircase, one hand on the railing as he walks to you, "but never fail to be kind. Oh and you mustn't tell anyone your name. No one would understand it, anyway. Except - "
He collapses, but you catch him, worry in your eyes. You know what's happening, of course you do. You just hope he's not taking too long to regenerate. Of course you're sad to see this Doctor go, but a world without the Doctor is a world not worth living.
"- except children. Children can hear it sometimes. If their hearts are in the right place and the stars are too, children can hear your name." He jolts a little as pain goes through him again. "Oh, and one more thing... Never, ever leave (y/n). You mustn't leave her. She is the light in the darkest nights to lead you home. Laugh hard, run fast, be kind." He gives you one last kiss, pulling you impossibly close. When he pulls away, he pushes you away to keep you safe. "Doctor, I let you go."
You watch as the regeneration energy flows through his body. The TARDIS sparks a bit and begins shaking but you don't notice. You can't keep your eyes off of the Doctor. You want to look away... It feels as though he's dying and you're unable to do anything but sit there and watch. Suddenly the golden energy surrounding the TARDIS stops and in the grey, curly-haired Scotsman's place is... a woman?
The Doctor's signet ring falls off of her right hand. You take a good look at her for a moment. She has chin length blond hair, brown eyes, she's kind of small but still kind of tall? She's in the baggy clothes that your tall ass Scotsman wore. She sees herself in the reflection of one of the screens and then looks back at you.
"Oh, brilliant!" She grins. You take note of her English accent and walk up to her, taking her hand in yours.
"D'you feel any different about me, Doctor?"
She looks at you in confusion and then it suddenly clicks. She pulls you by the hand closer to her and kisses you, pouring all her emotions into one small kiss.
When you pull away, you blush intensely. "W-Well that was – "
"I know." She grins, pressing a quick peck to your lips. She then presses a button and the TARDIS goes haywire. You manage to get a tight grip on the console, but the Doctor isn't as lucky. She falls out onto the planet below, leaving you to wonder what has happened to her.
This one is gonna have a part two ahaha :p i think. maybe. idk yet.
