Rusty's POV:
As Pink thinks of different places where Kaylee could have gone something in her mind hits her. An expression of realization.
"What?" I question.
"ALEX!" We both say in unison.
Pink and I jogged to Alex's room and swung open the door to see a small child sitting down on a chair that's pulled up to the sleeping man's bed. Even with the sound of two adults, swinging open a door panting... she doesn't turn away... Kaylee gently gazed at Alex's lifeless body with wired and tubes covering every inch of him. He looked awful. I heard a small quiet gasp escaping Pink's lips as she covers her mouth in shock. The room was peacefully silent besides the sound of odd beeping coming from certain monitors.
"I-I heard everything the doctor said" Kaylee's lips trembling as she stuttered, still refusing to allow Alex out of her sight. A tear rolled gently from her puffed eyes which landed on her small phone.
I shut the door allowing us all some privacy. Another silence filled the room.
"K-Kaylee I-" I was cut off by the small brown-haired child.
"There's nothing to say" Kaylee cut me off with a high pitch whispered tone. She placed her hand on his and slowly turned to face us.
Pink walked over to sitting child and crouched down a little bit and gave Kaylee a bear hug.
"He's going to be ok, I promise" Pink whispered, but just loud enough that I can hear.
Pink pulled away and the room once again became quiet. A moment or two later and a loud ear-bleeding beeping was going on.
Pink's POV:
I look up at the heart monitor and I see his heart slowly decreasing. I shot a look of worry to Rusty.
"Rusty get the doctor, QUICK!" I demanded. Rusty pressed the emergency room bell. I look back down at my little sister and hurrying her out of the room.
"Pink what's going on?!" Kaylee concerned.
"Nothing it'll be okay, come on Mom is probably outside waiting for you" I reassured Kaylee moving her around the corner to avoid her from seeing all the Doctors and Nurses rushing to Alex's aid.
"Fine..." Kaylee saddened her tone. She slowly dragged her feet while walking away.
"Rusty keep an eye on Alex please and I'll be back in a second".
"Okay" Rusty replied giving me a kiss on the forehead and walked back towards Alex's room watching through the window.
I caught up with Kaylee catching her hand in mine. She looked so tired and miserable, I felt bad for her... She never got to say goodbye... I just rushed ourselves out a room with no context of what was going on.
I stopped walking as I and Kaylee arrived at the elevator. I looked at her and she was fiddling with her headphones.
"Hey, Kaylee, Alex will get through this. Trust me. I promise" I promised Kaylee and stuck out my Pinky finger for Kaylee to wrap her finger around. Kaylee looked at me than my finger then back at me again with a look of uncertainty.
"You swear on it?" She hesitantly asked.
"On everything" I answer still holding out my Pinky finger.
Kaylee slowly reached for my Pinky finger with hers and wrapped it tight around mine. At that moment the elevator door opened and we broke our fingers away from each other's and stepped inside the crowded lift full of patients. I pressed the button to go down and held Kaylee close to me.
After a few stops, we finally met the ground floor and stepped out heading towards the entrance of the hospital where I could see my Mom's car parked outside. Before we left the door I stopped dead in my tracks, Kylee looked behind me confused about what I was doing.
"Remember what I said, Kaylee... I never break a promise". I smiled. Kaylee's face lit up a bit as we both stepped outside to send Kaylee home.
