Walking into the house, backpack in hand, I was greeted with flooding memories that lived on with me to this day. Times where I used to run around and trip over myself. Where I played games and the backyard where I played volleyball with my brother. It seems as if nothing has changed; apart from some rearrangement of new furniture and such.
I help my mum bring my luggage to my old room, which was still in the state I left it in 5 years ago. However, when my mum did some cleaning. She called us and asked what I don't need, so the majority of my closets are empty.
"Mai, I'm gonna make you some thing to eat, I'll call you down when it's ready." She said, patting my back and leaving me in my room.
Standing there, I absorbed what my room looks like. A smile grew on my face as I dropped my bag onto the floor and jumped onto my bed, letting out a high squeak.
"AHH!" I exclaimed, "I'm home, I'm finally in Japan!"
I rolled around in my bed for a bit and I took a quick second to stare at my ceiling. The familiar white plaster that I used to wake up to. I quickly sat up and walked to my desk that was to the left of me. I leaned my hand onto the table and I observed all of the decorations and posters on my wall. Whilst scanning, I saw two famed pictures, one of my family and one with the young me, Kenma and nii-chan. I pick up the picture of the three of us and I wiped any dust that was on the fame or glass. We we're smiling, smiling so happily. Like that moment would never end.
I turned the picture to the back and opened it up to reveal a folded up piece of paper. I took the paper out and carefully placed the fame photo back onto the desk. At first glance, the paper read, "永遠にともに // Together forever". I unfolded the paper and it was a letter that us three wrote. The slightly messy handwriting and scattered stickers, the little sketches and drawing of cats. From the top it said:
"Dear Future Kusurō, Kenkotan and Kurai,
How are you Future Kusurō? I hope you are a famous volleyball player and I hope that you are still best friends with Kenkotan! I hope you three are going to the same junior high and high school. I hope that in the future, us three are reading this like we are writing this! Do I get as tall or even taller than papa? Wahh, I hope that you are happy!
From 10-year-old Kusurō!
Hi Future Kenma, what are you up to? I hope you're well and happy. Look after Mai and always keep the Kuroo siblings close to you. They are some of the greatest people you'll ever meet. Stay safe.
From 9-year-old Kenkotan
Future Mai. I wonder what you're like then. Are you still close to Kenma? Are you still playing volleyball? Are you doing something that makes you happy? Do you get any taller? Just, how are you? I have so much to ask, like what job are you working in? Do you ever fall in love? I want you to know that no matter what happens, you're not alone, you have nii-chan and Ken-chan! Stay safe and do what you love. Study well and work hard~!
From 9-year-old Mai
Let's stay together forever <3"
We were quite a bunch, weren't we. I fold the letter back up, following the old creases that it possesses. I reassemble the frame and placed the picture back on the mantle with the family one. I walk over to my bag and open it, taking out my diary. I flip through all the colourful pages until the latest one. I slip the letter and closed the diary back up. I guess some things in that letter didn't come true.
