Mai's POV
"Yacchan, it's getting super hot now, don't cha think?" I said, wiping a little steam from my forehead.
"Yeah, and it's only the third day." She said, crouching down to fill up water bottles with Kiyoko.
I was next to them, both washing and filling Nekoma's bottles whilst the boys continue to play. The sun was at its peak and just basking in this heat for a few minutes builds up a sweat. It was nice weather, I've got to admit, definitely better than the bipolar weather in England. One day it's bright and sunny, then the next day it's raining like there's no tomorrow. At least weather here in Japan is slightly more consistent, but damn, it's scorching hot. I bend down under the tree, which shaded the three of us, placing another water bottle onto the rack.
"Mai-chan, I have a question." Yachi stated, filling her next bottle.
"What is it?" I said, proceeding to wash another one.
"Do you play volleyball?"
I stood back up, taking in a breath of warm heat. It just had to be that... I mean, I don't blame her at all, it's a very reasonable question to ask. Why am I over thinking this way to much? "Uh– Mai-chan?"
"Oh— sorry hah~ I just spaced out a bit." I mumbled, slightly jumbling a few words, "I used to play, not anymore."
"Oh, why's that?" She asked. I looked down to the grass, not really wanting to answer it. Yachi, noticing my sudden gloomy state, started to panic a little, "Ah! I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked that! You don't need to tell me if it's too person, ah I'm rambling right? I'm so sorr—"
Kiyoko and I giggled a little, watching her little speech, "No, no! No need to be sorry Yacchan." I reassured, patting her back a little; I went back to filling the last the bottles below me, "I would just rather not talk about it, if you don't mind."
"Not at all!" She said, smiling awkwardly, returning back to her task.
What would I even say... 'I quit volleyball because I don't think I'm good enough'? Sounds, and probably is, a pathetic reason. Or maybe, 'I quit volleyball because I have not faith in myself or skills', that doesn't sound any better. I'm thinking too much about this...
As Karasuno's players finished their penalty sprint, they headed towards us. But I have other things to deal with, and that's these water bottles. "Thanks for letting me use this water tank Kiyoko-san."
"Of course, anytime~" She responded with her angelic smile, gosh she's so beautiful and kind.
"I'll see you two later!" I said to the two, waving before lifting the weighty water bottle rack.
As I made my way down the hill, I couldn't keep my footing steady and neither could the bottles. Stumbling a little on my way down, a lone bottle tipped out and fell onto the floor. Damn it, I just washed it too... I slowly crouched down a little, reaching down to get the bottle on the floor. Being my slightly illogical self, I was also trying to balance the rack in my other hand. I groan a little as I felt my finger tips slightly brush the bottles surface, until I felt it had gone missing. I turn my head a little to see the blue water bottle in front of my face. My eyes travel to see the familiar yellow jersey that Karasuno possessed.
Number 11...
"Uh. Thank you Tsukishima-san..." I stated, standing back up, trying to compose myself in the process. I looked up to see him and observe him a little. He had beads of sweat along his forehead and the side of his face. He breathing was slightly unsteady, but then again, they just sprinted in this heat.
