'Am I a lovesick idi-'
"Oi, Kenma.. Remember this?" Tetsurō nudged the boy's side, interrupting Kenma mid-thought. He reached his hand out to pick up the lone picture frame that was set on Mai's desk. The picture of the three of when they were little. Tetsurō faced Kenma, handing the framed memory to him.
"How long ago was this?" Kenma asked, taking it into his hand. He had a small smile form, as he traced a finger over the slightly stained glass. 'God, we look so young. I complete forgot that's what I looked like without dyed hair...'
"Dunno, I think when we were eight.. Nine maybe?" Tetsurō replied, leaning back on his chair. He took another peak at the picture and sighed, "Time sure flies."
"Mhm." Kenma mumbled, gently placing the frame back onto the desk, next to Mai's phone. As he was doing so, the phone slightly buzzed, along with a ding. He furrowed his eyebrows, as he was able to see the illuminated screen.
'Nishinoya? The libero from Karasuno?' He thought as he slowly backed away from the phone. 'Mai sure got to know Karasuno real quickly..'
"Um.. Kuro?" Kenma mumbled, calling out to his best friend. Tetsurō looked over and hummed a 'Mhm', "What did you mean by, 'lovesick idiot'?"
"It meant that you're a lovesick idiot." He plainly stated like fact, side glancing at Kenma. It didn't help Kenma's case at all. He furrowed his eyebrows, baffled by Tetsurō's simple reply. He sighed with a small chuckle, "You'll figure it out what I mean soon."
"That's not helpful at all." Kenma retorted, focusing his gaze away from Mai.
"Tetsurō!" There was a gentle call from the sibling's mother around the house.
"I'll be right back." Tetsurō, once again, got out of his chair and left the bedroom.
Kenma definitely preferred Tetsurō staying with him. He felt extremely awkward and didn't have anyone to talk to while Mai slept. Luckily he kept his game console in his jacket pocket. Pulling out the console, he made sure to lower the volume so it didn't bother her. As he was playing, he would see Mai readjust her position every now and again. But her face held an uncomfortable expression. Seeing that worried Kenma, 'Did she hear my conversation with Kuro? I hope not...'
It wasn't long before Kenma became bored of repeating the same incomplete level again. Instead he turned back to the picture of when they were younger. Though, he wasn't able to tell whether he remembers the moment vividly or not. Many moments of his childhood he had buried away, but the ones he kept were always to do with Mai or Tetsurō. He stared longingly at the image - he wasn't smiling in the picture but he could tell he was happy at that time. Well, Mai and Tetsurō were there with him.
It got him thinking, 'What would I be without them? What if I never met them?'.
A world where he never met them was a world he would hate to be in. So much of his life was affected by two people, what would it be like without them? He wouldn't be the person he is today without their efforts. He wouldn't be as happy as he was right now. As he was spiralling in his own thoughts, he didn't notice the girl behind him started to feel more agitated. But with the slight creak of her bed's frame, he turned to see if Mai was awake.
"Hey Kenma," Tetsurō popped his head in, whispering into the room, "Can you wake up Mai, lunch is ready."
"Okay.." Kenma nodded as he returned to look at her. He carefully sat himself by her side of the bed. He inched closer to her, placing a hand onto her blanketed shoulder. "Mai-mai.."
Kenma's voice broke into her conscience. He was gently rocking her awake, watching her slightly move, "Wake up now..."
Mai groaned hearing the words 'wake up'. She didn't want to get up yet, the bed was too comfy and warm. But as she woke up, felt a sharp pain on her head again, 'I guess my headache is still there.'
