10 ; Matched Up

Mai's POV

I only got to talk to Nishinoya for, I'd say, like ten seconds before a fairly tall boy interrupted us. What's with everyone and interrupting today?

I examine the boy beside who was still standing next to me. He had brownish, almost tinted green hair with a little noticeable fly-away at the top. On his face, he had freckles that accented his cheeks, how cute~

"I- um- hi!" He said, initiating the conversation. He looked down at me, smiling sheepishly with a flushed face. "Sorry for interrupting your conversation."

"No no, don't worry about it." I smiled back at him as he was fidgeting a little, "It's completely fine. So, am I right to assume you're on Hinata-san and Nishinoya-san's team?"

"Yeah- How did you know that?" He asked

"Your team doesn't have a match right now." I said

"Oh yeah," He chuckled a little, "Um, if you don't mind me asking, what's your name?"

"I'm Kuroo Mai, it's nice to meet you!" I said, beaming back at him. His face got slightly redder.

"It's nice to meet you too! I-I'm Yamaguchi Tadashi." He replied. Aww, he's really sweet! "So you're Nekoma's captain's little sister?"

"Yeah, I guess your team have been raving on about it."

"Kinda, from what I heard, earlier when you first came you did a good dig for our ace, Asahi-san. Well that's what I heard from both Noya and Hinata." He gave a small grin and rub the back of his neck.

"Well you heard right, just out of curiosity Yamaguchi-san, what position do you play?" I asked turning to look up at him

"I'm a middle blocker, but right now I'm just the pinch server.."

"That's cool!" My eyes dazzle up at him, in which he blushed a little, though after he did seem down, it felt like the tone shifted to pessimistic.

"Not really, hah.." He muttered under his breath.

"I've had that feeling before, Yamaguchi, no need to put yourself down. No matter what your position is, it's important. You're role is just as important as anyone else on the team. Don't you ever forget that!"

"Thanks Kuroo-san." He said bashfully, rubbing the side of his other arm with his dominant hand. "Now that I think about it, you sounded like Nishinoya just then."

"Really! Great minds think alike!" I replied, giggling a little. "And call me Mai, it gets confusing when people call me Kuroo, it also feels quite awkward too. I'm not really used to being called my last name."

"Really? How come?" He asked, titling his head a little.

"I just recently came back from England," I said, his eyes widened slightly in surprise, "So I'm more used to being called Mai rather than Kuroo."

"Ahh I see, hmm, is it okay if I call you Mai-chan, or is that too informal?" He waved his hands in front worriedly, expecting rejection but I smile and snort at his actions.

"It's completely fine, you can call me that."

"Thanks, you can call me Tadashi if you want to too."

"Sure, though I might switch between both of your names depending on the situation." I said sheepishly, placing my hand behind my head.

"That's fine too." He smiled and laughed a little. He's really sweet and easy to talk to. Even though he can be shy, he's a little bubbly in his own way. You always need a friend like Yamaguchi.
