Varian Fairchild had not seen his mother since he was two years old.

And every part of him was alright with that.

He was raised by his adoptive father Magnus Bane, the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Who was the only family he really needed. Magnus raised him, and Magnus was his baba, and it had to be the strangest thing.

When he was a child, it was easy to be raised by a Warlock. He traveled around the world, and had a full education, but as he got older and as his father was given more duties, Varian had to be a little more independent. Not that he minded.

By fifteen he was a full-fledged mundane college student, with an awful job, and a Downworlder business on the side.

And by eighteen, Varian was entirely self-sufficient, with a job that he loved and an apartment that was perfect for him.

Everything was perfect.

Until one night a group of Shadowhunters come knocking on his door with an injured werewolf and his father facilitating the meeting.

And suddenly, Varian is pushed into living a life as a Shadowhunter, the one thing he hadn't expected to ever become, at least not fully.

From meeting and keeping secrets from his newfound sister, to helping to find the mother that didn't even recognize him, Varian had a lot coming.

Not even mentioning the fact that he found himself entirely besotted by a certain Shadowhunter, running from the Clave on at least one occasion with said Shadowhunter, and coming to terms with who he was as a Warlock.
