Summary: Jane and Lisbon confront their fears of Red John

~*~

I looked from the smashed phone to Teresa. Her face was a pale, ghostly white and tears were leaving streaks down her beautiful cheeks. Something was seriously wrong, but I couldn't tell what.

"Teresa," I said, my voice soft, "who was that?"

"It was Red John." She choked, burying her face in my chest.

"What? No Teresa, that's impossible." I'd be damned if I let that bastard get anywhere near her.

"Trust me Jane, it was him."

"I killed him." I said, not believing myself.

"He has someone, a man by the sound of it." she said, her voice still muffled by my clothes.

I put my arm around her shoulder and just held her for a long time, both of us silently crying, a skill we have both become masters at.

"We need to call Abbott." I say when I'm calm enough to speak.

I got up from the bed and picked up the shattered pieces of Teresa's phone, dropping them into my jacket pocket. I heard my phone ring and picked it off the end table.

"Patrick Jane speaking." I say as nonchalantly as possible.

"Jane." I was met by Cho's voice, "Tommy's gone missing and Boss isn't answering her phone."

Shit. Red John's targeting Lisbon now. Just what we need.

"Lisbon's with me." I explained, "There was a mishap with her phone. I may have a lead on Tom.." Lisbon's eyes shot up at me, "Tomorrow's surprise party for Kim. Real shame no one told me." I tried to save, "Have Wylie trace Lisbon's last call, we'll be there in ten."

I hung up before Cho could ask how I knew about Teresa.

"I know there isn't a surprise party for Kim." She said, her voice still shaking.

I sat back down on the bed and pulled her into my embrace once more. I didn't want to tell her, but it was that or cause a scene in the bullpen. Here goes nothing.

"Tommy has gone missing." I said as gently as I could.

"Please Jane, please tell me it's not Red John." She untangled herself from me and began pacing.

"What about Annie? Is she okay? Where is she?" There was a definite edge to her voice.

"I don't know. I told Cho we'd meet everyone at HQ. You don't have to go if you don't want to." I said.

"I do Jane." She said matter-of-factly.
