Draco's POV

This winter was a harsh one. Dull silver clouds hung over the city, little flakes of snow falling every so often. My white breath curled out of my mouth as I shivered and pulled my thin coat around me. Strong currents of wind passed, tossing both people near by and little snow flurries around. Most people who were crazy enough to be out here were rushing into a nearby restaurant or shop for a little relief from the on coming snow storm brewing. All except one older man.

Some small talk had mentioned Legendary John before, but I had never seen him before. Legendary John was an elderly dark skinned man who was blind completely in his right eye and nearly blind in his left. He always held a wooden rod and had his two hands folded across it. And the only place you would ever see him was on a metal bench placed on the outskirts of Diagon Alley. Legend has it that he was head Auror back in his day and served a good 50 years before he was one day shot in the eyes with a spell (not specified which kind) and went almost blind. Being almost completely blind and tired of fighting for such a long time, he decided to retire. He had some people look after him and help him with everyday things at first, until those people decided to take advantage of him and steal his entire fortune, leaving him with a lot of bills to pay with no money. He was kicked out and left on the streets with no one or anything besides that wooden rod and clothes on his back. He never moved from that spot, not even for food. How he was still alive is still a mystery, for every time someone would walk up to him and ask him so, he would answer, "All I need is the good fresh air and the love in my heart." What did he love? No one knows. He wouldn't tell.

He approached fast since I was walking quickly, ready to get out of this cold weather. He seemed like a statute, and I would've thought he was if it weren't for his white breath pouring into the air in a thin stream. He stared straight ahead, unaware I was walking by until I had actually passed him.

I counted the number of steps I had taken once I passed him.

4... 5... 6... 7...

"Hey!" someone called out.

8...

I turned around and Legendary John had turned to look at me, straight on. I jumped a little and stared right back at him.

"Hello sir," I said timidly.

"Come here boy," he growled cruelly, like the weather around us. I shivered a little and walked to him cautiously. He patted the bench next to him and I sat accordingly. Everything went quiet everywhere, even the wind died down. He looked around, rocking back and forth.

"Sir? Is there something you need?"

He shook his head. "No no. You just looked troubled, maybe even lost."

I laughed a little and began to stutter since the cold was even worsening. "No sir, I am not. But I am a little reluctant to go where I am headed."

"How so?"

"My fiance and son are in danger, and I'm trying to find the woman who wants to hurt them. We believe someone who can help us is at The Griffin's Wing..."

He paused for only the slightest of a second, letting on that he knew about The Griffin's Wing. Everyone who has ever been there knows about how bad it is. It isn't a good place of mortality. "Ah, I see," he said.

"Do you know her? Astoria Greengrass, or... Malfoy? Or how about Renee Clemence de Laffite? Or maybe-"

He waved a hand irritably. "Calm down boy. Yes, I have heard of both."

I stopped everything, even breathing, waiting for him to say something. My sudden tentativeness caught his attention and he stared cruelly at the nearby shops.

"Sitting on this bench has actually helped me more than hurt me. Words flying carelessly through the air always land on my ears unknowingly by everyone. Yes, I know where they are."

My heartbeat stopped. "Where?"

Hermione's POV

I hugged Scorpius close to me to shelter him from the bitter wind. Ron walked in front of us, letting off puffs of steam that distracted Scorpius from the task before hand. We were nearing The Griffin's Wing, and heart began to race.

"Ron?" I asked.

He turned to look at me. His face was unshaven and scraggly-looking, his eyes were dark and his mouth set into a frown. He sensed my worried tone and he became softer, his eyes crinkling a little. It reminded of all the times I made him laugh while we were engaged.... How he would clench his stomach, his mouth wide open, and his eyes crinkled with delight...

I was scared.

I wanted to keep Scorpius safe...

He knew what I was thinking.

"Don't worry Hermione. I will guard you both with my life. Nothing will hurt you. I promise."

"Thank you," I whispered.

Scorpius leaned in closer to me, laying his head under my cloak to keep warm. I spoke sweet words to him which calmed him a little, or at least I thought.

"Mommy?"

"Yes Scorpius?" I put a smile on my face as he looked up at me with his father's eyes.

"I'm scared."

Me too, I thought.

"Everything will be OK, I promise. We will see Daddy soon, OK?"

He nodded and put his head back down.

My heart hung heavily. Was it the right decision to bring him along? I didn't want anything to happen to him, and I couldn't let him just stay at the Black house by himself....

"We're here," Ron whispered. He put his arm around my waist and I pushed him away defensively. "Hermione," he said dangerously, "I don't want anything to happen to you... This is not a safe place, you understand that?" I nodded reluctantly. "Yes, but.... just don't mean anything by it...." "I won't... You love someone else, I won't get in the way of that..." He cast a glance at my engagement ring. I felt my cheeks flush and I whispered, "Thank you," once again.

We neared a large pub that looked nice and inviting. Many shouts could be heard from the outside mixed with laughter. A painted griffin that seemed to be a female was on the front doors, which seemed very new.

Ron gulped. "Are you ready?"

I looked down at Scorpius who had had almost fallen asleep on my shoulder. I pulled my cloak around him to conceal him.

I nodded and Ron pushed the doors open.
