(Continuation of previous chapter)

Surprisingly, Draco seemed to forget about their little incident and moved on. Hermione thought she was going to have to live through his teasing torment, but it never came. But what came to her as a shock was that Draco was actually being nice to her.

Often times they would joke around in potions, "accidentally" putting wrong ingredients in each other's potions, causing them to occasionally blow up. One time however, Draco had snuck three ounces of gillyweed into her potion. When Hermione turned back to put some Aphrodite in it, it blew up in her face making her hair stand on end. Draco fell to the floor laughing so hard tears were spilling out of his eyes. She glared at him for a moment before she began laughing too. They both received detentions, but it was worth it.

Later that night, they had to scrape of all the grime from the trophies in the trophy room together. Hermione quietly scraped away, minding her own business, actually taking interest in what the trophies said. She saw that Hufflepuff had actually won the house cup more times than any other house, which was very surprising. Looking at the seekers of Ravenclaw, something hit her in the back of the head. She turned to see a giant wad of scum on the floor. Her mouth fell open and Draco laughed uncontrollably. Swiping at the back of her head to make sure none was still there, Hermione stared at Draco with pure hatred. His laughing fit ended quickly by being hit in the face with the same piece. His face was utterly shocked and it was Hermione's turn to laugh. She rolled to the floor clutching her sides.

"Oh you are going to get it now Granger!"

Hermione struggled to her feet, still weak from laughter but as soon as she had taken not even two steps, she was being pinned to the ground with an amazingly gentle Draco hanging above her. She laughed even harder now, causing Draco to smile, not smirk but actually smile. Eventually the two calmed down to just stare at one another.

"You are such an arrogant git Draco," Hermione said with a little smirk of her own.

He smirked right back. "Well you are such insufferable know it all Mione. I don't even know why I stick around you all the time."

"Oh it's because you are so intrigued by me, aren't you?" She raised an eyebrow. "You can't stay away from me!"

Draco leaned very close to her face, looking her over with tender eyes. "Yes, yes I am intrigued by you. I have been for a long time for your information. You are the smartest, most beautiful, most clever girl I have ever met. Whenever I am with you, I get so flustered. That's why I make so many snide comments, it's my outer shell protecting the real me... No one really understands me. They just judge me..."

He sat back on the floor looking away. Hermione sat up slowly taking much interest in what Draco was saying. They sat there in the silence for a long while before Hermione tried to break it. "Look, I'm sorry Dra-"

His expression hardened. "Don't call me that." Then got up and left, his fists clenched and muttering things to himself.

Hermione stared after him, slightly confused. She ran after him into the small quiet corridor. "Malfoy!" He stopped cold in his tracks.

"What. Do. You. Want." He asked slowly, anger building up in his voice. She had hit a soft spot, and she knew it so she decided not to make things worse.

"I want to know. I want to know the real Draco. The one I have loved ever since you stood up to Voldemort himself. I want to know what he is hiding."
