Hey guys. Remember that flash drive incident? Well Lalita’s mom’s name was on it. If ANYONE remembers if I said it somewhere please let me know.

Lita’s POV

I rode in the ambulance with Nicki and was in a state of shock. I was experiencing my worst night mare, ending up in a hospital, but this wasn’t caused by my father’s hand. Nicki was hooked up to a few machines and her breathing was hard. She was twitching and I tried to stay out of the paramedics’ way but I started to get really scared.

“What’s wrong with her,” I ask in total panic. I’ve never seen something like this and the fact that Nicki is the one hooked up is scaring me even more. Nicki always took care of me when I was hurting. She was always there but I shut her out. Why is it that now when she needs help I can’t do anything?

I didn’t know the first thing about helping others but here I am in an ambulance with my one and only best friend. “There’s the hospital miss,” a paramedic said, “The nurses will explain everything we can’t right now.” I moved out of the way as they rolled Nicki out of the ambulance and into the hospital. I walk inside the hospital and take a seat into the lobby. I really need to call her parents but I don’t have the number. I could look in a phone book.

“Lalita,” someone calls out to me. I look up and see Kayden staring at me. “What are you doing here,” I ask somewhat rudely. Kayden sat next to me and I started to panic. Why is he in the hospital when I’m here? Has he been following me?

“I came to see Nicki. The hospital called her dad,” Kayden says smoothly. “So you’re best friends with her dad,” I ask. “No but her dad and my dad are cool,” Kayden says. “I still don’t see why you are here? Are you two an item,” I ask suspiciously. That would explain why Kayden and Nicki have been talking a lot in the halls. I asked Nicki about it once but she said it was nothing.

Nicki is a terrible liar. “I don’t think we’re an item but I like her,” Kayden trails off. “So I’ll ask again. Why are you here,” I ask wanting a straight answer. “I was worried ok? Her dad is out of town and her mom is a few hours away. I didn’t want her to wake up alone,” he says truthfully. “Was that so hard,” I ask sarcastically and sit back.

I wonder if dad’s home. I’ll probably go to prom through the window if I even go. If Nicki’s too sick then I’ll stay home. Piper doesn’t mean that much to me. I mean he’s nice and cute but it would never last. All the trouble is just not worth it. Right?

“Lalita I’ve been meaning to ask you this but…I never knew how so I’m just going to show you. Do you know who this is,” he asks as he pulls out a picture. The woman had dirty blonde hair in tight curls and brown eyes. She looked familiar with that happy smile and a single scene played in my mind.

I imagine myself watching my six year old self watching my mom packing. I remember that phone call. I remember the suitcases. I remember wanting to surprise her. When she walked out of the door my six year old self wanted to go too. That was the day my mom left me.

I wiped the tear from my face and stared at Kayden. “How did you get that picture,” I ask. “So you know here,” Kayden asks. I nod slowly. “That was my mom,” I say and Kayden sighs. “I figured. You two looked alike but the thing is that this is also my mom.”
